2 We are here tonight to outline this year’s program in fourth grade.

3 At the end of the presentation, please take a packet of information from the back table, if you did not already do so. Sign in sheets are going around. Please sign in on one. If you would like to volunteer as a room parent, please put a star by your name. If we have more than two volunteers from each homeroom, we will put names in a hat. Please send an to Mrs. Schulze with your name and your child’s name. We will use these s to contact parents.

4 Schedule Each student should have a typed copy of the schedule in their daily agenda pad. Being departmentalized, our schedules are hardly ever consistent from one day to the next. We are all working hard to remember where we are going and when. Our color coded notebooks and folders are meant to help us stay organized: Green – Math Yellow – Science Blue – Social Studies Red – Language Arts

5 Subjects The core subjects this year are:
-Language Arts (Mrs. Semeniuk) Writing/Grammar Reading -Math (Mrs. Schulze) -Science (Mrs. Schulze) -Social Studies (Mrs. Semeniuk)

6 Language Arts Common Core Daily Skills Practice, DOL, D.E.A.R., Journals Novel-based curriculum (about one novel per marking period) Nonfiction piece(s) each marking period Vocabulary and grammar will be incorporated within the stories and writing Writing program focuses on using touchstone texts to aide in the process

7 Math Fifth year using enVision
Basic operations, fractions, decimals, problem solving, probability, geometry, measurement, graphing, perimeter, area, volume, etc. Students should know their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.

8 Social Studies Main focus of the curriculum – History of New Jersey and Rockaway Township Map/Globe skills Revolutionary War in New Jersey Some long term projects throughout the year Since this is an election year, we will take a look at the election process

9 Science Life Science: Animals and Plants in their Environment
Physical Science: Magnetism & Electricity, Energy Earth Science: Earth/Sun/Moon Movements, Rocks, Minerals, and Soil

10 Spanish Spanish is once a week on Fridays. This is a graded subject.
The weekly activity sheets will count as a grade. Periodically, there are unit tests. Study guides are sent home one week prior to the test.

11 Grading The report card is very similar to the third grade report card. The major difference is that number grades will be used for all four marking periods. All grades will also be online this year. Each week, we will send home an assessment folder with your child's work. You can also see up-to-date grades on Genesis.

12 Grading This year, grades will be weighted as follows:
Tests will count for 40% Quizzes will count for 25% Projects will count for 25% Homework will count for 10%

13 Homework Should usually be no longer than minutes daily. If it is consistently taking longer, please send us an or a note. We stress using time wisely for homework. There will be both long term and short term assignments this year. Make sure your child always has a book here to read. All homework will be posted on our websites, but please also check your child’s assignment book daily.
