4 Weekly Newsletters Every Friday I will send an with a link with our weekly newsletter. Newsletters will inform you on what your child did in class for the week, along with any special announcements, reminders, spelling lists, and the upcoming skills which will be taught the following week.

5 Rock Star Binders Class Dojo Reminders Twitter Account Website
These binders will keep your child organized and will “house” their student planners, homework, important school flyers, graded papers, and log-in information for websites used in class. Please initial your child’s planner nightly. Please empty any graded/important papers in folders once sent home. Class Dojo Reminders From time to time I will send out reminders, special announcements, or pictures of what is happening through Class Dojo. Please make sure you turn on notifications when using this APP. Twitter Account If you have a Twitter account, or are interested in signing up for one, you can follow our “classroom Website Please visit my teacher webpage to learn more about my classroom. I also have websites your child can access at home.

7 Class DoJo *Track behavior via point system- Students will earn/lose points for positive/negative behaviors *Look for Class Reminders or Special Notes sent by me in “Messages” *Pictures taken by students of what we are doing in the classroom found in Class Story. *Parents can send private messages to me as well through “Messages” *Students and Parents can log on to view Dojo points daily! *If anyone is still having trouble signing up, please see me before you leave tonight.

8 3rd Grade Curriculum

9 Reading – Journey’s Focused skill/strategy each week, Comprehension Tests at the end of each school week. *STARS PROGRAM Spelling- Spelling words tested at the end of each school week. Math – Go Math Series Writing – Journey’s- Focus on the Writing Process to create different styles of writing Science – Sound, Water, Objects in the Sky, Animal Adaptations, Simple Machines Social Studies – Economics, Government, Landforms, Local History Study Island – Math & Reading questions/games to help reinforce skills taught in school. Students can access this online at home through Clever (link found on school website). Students can click on Marvelous Math or Reading Rocks.

11 Standards Based Report Cards
* Percentage grades will now be given for each subject area. Students will also be evaluated using: 3 (Proficient) = Student is meeting grade level expectations; 2 (Basic) = Student is progressing toward the standard with teacher direction and assistance; and 1 (Below Basic) = Student is beginning to develop the standard, but not yet producing required grade level work. *Grades are based on students mastering end of the year expectations. *Not all standards are assessed each trimester. *The goal is for each student to attain a score of 3 by the end of the year. *Behaviors will be evaluated using: O = Student is consistently producing quality work beyond grade level expectations; S = Student is meeting grade level expectations; and N = Student needs some improvement to meet grade level expectations.

12 Assessments *Students will be assessed formally and informally throughout the year. Students will receive the following assessments throughout the year. Study Island District Benchmark Tests (Math and Reading)- Fall, Winter, and Spring PSSA’s (Math and Reading)- Spring DRA assessments (September, February, and May) Curriculum Tests- at the end of each Unit Informal Assessments: SeeSaw- An online digital journal

14 *Reading Students are expected to read 90 minutes a week Students record minutes read in planners- Parent initials by date read Students can choose chapter book from home/school Short book talk on a chapter book read due at the end of each month (Students will complete this in class) *Math Assignments will be sent as we cover the material- Please check student planners

Scholastic Book Club Book Orders sent home once a month Pay online with code FXYWN, or make checks payable to Scholastic Each order helps buy books for the class, but there is never any obligation to buy Specials: Day 1-Music, Day 2-Art, Day 3- 2st Century/Exchange books, Day 4- Gym, Day 5- Conflict/Health
