Reading - Jewell Reading is a vital area in 4th grade. There are many skills that will need to be taught and reviewed this school year. We will be using many different resources that Mr. Hurley has purchased for us. They are based on the twelve most important skill good readers use during reading Every Monday your child needs to bring their Reading book home and read the week’s story. Weekly Comprehension test over the story will be one of the grades taken in reading per week. Academic Vocabulary test will be given. 20 minutes a day should be spent reading. AR POINTS WILL BE EARNED EACH NINE WEEKS. Their goals will be set on their individual skills. AR will be a grade recorded in reading for each nine weeks.

Math - Adams Your child will be making an Interactive Notebook this year. This notebook is to be used as their textbook. Everyday that a new skill is taught your child will be taking notes and working examples in this notebook. Parents should be able to use their child’s notebook to help them with their homework. I know it has been many years since some have been in school and math can be intimidating. is a great resource if you have any questions. Multiplication facts need to be practiced every night at home. Additional practice will be sent home as homework during the week. Math Masters will be used to practice their facts at school.

Social Studies - Jewell
Students will be keeping a social studies notebook or paper bag book through out the whole school year for this subject. The students will make a title page, table of contents, define vocabulary, and complete lesson reviews. I will take (4-5) grades per chapter from their spiral notebook or paper bag book. The Comprehensive students will be assigned a THANKSGIVING project that will be a grade for the second (9) weeks. During the third (9) weeks I will assign a PRESIDENTIAL project. The fourth (9)weeks a report CHOCOLATE will be due.

Science - Adams A new Science Book was adopted for this school year. It has many hands-on-projects. This will be the first time your student has been taught science as a individual subject everyday. The hands-on-projects will only be done if the students take care of the materials and appropriate behavior is used to make them successful. There will be vocabulary and chapter test to study for.
