Introductions

UIL Coordinator’s Duties Register the campus with the UIL state office each school year (online at the UIL website). Work with the principal concerning coordination of the UIL academic program. Assist principal in recruiting teachers to be coaches for each UIL Academic event. Serve as the liaison between the coaches of UIL event, the principal and DSC. Order study materials from the UIL office. Ensure that the contents of packages from the UIL office are distributed appropriately. Provide a central location for filing and storage of UIL materials See that coaches receive information contained in the Leaguer or posted on the UIL website that pertains to the events they coach. Recruit teachers and students to become involved in UIL contests. Submit entry forms to the district coordinator at least 10 days prior to the district meet. Attend monthly Coordinator’s meetings and disseminate information to coaches and administration. (Dates to be determined)

UIL Coaches Duties Learn the rules of the contest as indicated in the Constitution and Contest Rules and the A+ Handbook. Download your own copy of the rules if need be. Recruit and train students to compete and work with campus and contest officials to ensure the smooth running of the contest. Sign and have notarized a “Professional Acknowledgment Form.” (High School) Check the UIL website for updates on rule changes and materials available. Practice regularly with students in contest situations. Attend invitational meets if possible. Network with other coaches. (Edmodo) Obtain study materials published by UIL and other academic companies. Utilize study materials published by UIL. Give lots of practice tests. Set up practice days and times with teams. Provide necessary guidance and resources to prepare for student success. The Academic Materials Study Booklets contain material for the art, calculator applications, creative writing, dictionary skills, editorial writing, impromptu, listening, maps, graphs & charts, mathematics, number sense, ready writing, science social studies, and storytelling contests. Be an initiator to provide an academic competitive experience for students. Keep open communication between students, parents and campus coordinator. Bring concerns, problems or suggestions for changes to the appropriate person. Be sure that you have a FULL TEAM on contest day.
