General Introduction Library building has 5 floors, there are 400 study places, a computer lab, and group and individual study rooms. Study rooms can be reserved online free of charge. On the 1st floor beside the main entrance there is a self-service book return machine. Thanks to it you have the possibility to return books even when library is closed. On 2nd and 3rd Floor there are self-service borrowing machines. Library has no separate silent reading rooms. Therefore 4th Floor in the library is a quiet study area. If you need to study in silence, go there! Library’s collection includes over 700 000 items. Also we provide campus-wide access to approximately 83 000 e-journals and 178 000 e-books. Visiting the library, you always need to register your visit with your library card. Coats and large bags should be left to the Wardrobe. Coffee cups are not allowed.

User registration With Estonian ID-card or Residence card Library card free of charge register at the Information Desk also online registration (PIN1 and PIN2 are required) Library card 2 € in cash NB! Know your Student Code To use the library, you need to register as our library reader at the library’s Information Desk. Estonian ID-cards and residence cards can be used as library cards and the registration is then free of charge. There is also online registration available. If you can not to wait until you get your ID-card or residence card, you can apply for a regular library card, which costs 2 euros. We can accept only cash payments in library! By user registration, you should know your Student Code. Student Code contains from 6 numbers and letters, which show your study programme. Look it up in Studies Information System ÕIS and remember it!

Borrowing At any service desk Self Check-out on 2nd and 3rd floor Open stack – pick a book Storage – fill out a call slip Up to 25 items at a time! For borrowing you can pick books from open stack and borrow them at any service desk with the help of librarian or you can use Self Check-out. To order books or journals from the storage you need to fill out the call slip and bring it to the service centre on the 2nd floor. Requests are fulfilled in 5-15 minutes. Students can borrow up to 25 items at a time. You can return books to any service desk or you can use the Self check-in on the 1st floor.

Loan Periods Generally 30 days Books with yellow spot – 14 days Books with blue spot – 7 days Books with red spot and all journals – for in-library use only Textbooks on 3rd floor – 90 days General loan period in our library is 30 days. Books with shorter loan period are marked with different colours: books with a yellow spot on the cover are for two weeks, books with a blue spot are for one week and books with a red spot are for in-library use only. Textbooks can be borrowed for 90 days. Journals are for in-library use only. In the open access area there are held journals of two last years, older journals are kept in storage – ask them from service centre on 2nd Floor. You can extend loans as many times as you need – it is not limited. When a book is already borrowed by somebody else, you can make a reservation for this book at any service desk. You can have up to 10 reservations at the same time.

Printing and copying Self-service on 2 nd, 3rd and 4th Floor Register your printing account at: http://pilveprint.overall.ee/foreign-students Print from any library computer or from your own laptop or smartphone Also at the university’s Copycentre in Study Building U04, room 102A For printing and copying in the library you need to open a printing account. Open your printing account at: http://pilveprint.overall.ee/foreign-students. You need: Google or Facebook account for login possibility to pay online with PayPal or a credit card Tallinn Public Transport Card to identify yourself at the printer For printing, you can use any computer in the library and also you can print from your own laptop. After you have set your e-mail address on the account settings page, you can upload documents also from your smartphone. The instructions you can find on the library’s webpage. When you will receive your ID-card, you can link it to your account and use both cards for printing. Printer/copy machines are located in the 2nd floor computer lab and on the 3rd and 4th floor. Only on 2nd floor there is a possibility for coloured print and copies. If you prefer to pay in cash, you can print at the university’s Copycentre.

Scanning Self-service: Instant service: free of charge on every floor up to A4 size documents On-Screen Manual Instant service: placing orders on the 5th floor up to A2 size documents OCR Scanning as self-service is free of charge. In the library there are scanners on every floor. If you need help on scanning use On-Screen Manual or ask a librarian in Help Desk. To use scanning as an instant service please contact the librarian on the 5th floor. By instant service the document size can be up to A2 and there is a possibility for optical text recognition. It’s also possible to borrow a scanner from the 4th floor service desk to connect it with your own laptop. You can borrow other computer accessories too – mice, headphones, ID-card readers, portable power banks, etc.

Library webpage: www.ttu.ee/library On the top you can find an important section for you – For Students. Beneath it you can search for books, journals, articles, and more. On the left side you can find library’s main information resources: Estonian online catalogue, e-resources portal, databases and digital collection. All our users have a campus-wide access of scientific databases. Students can use databases also outside the campus network thanks to the university’s remote access service. You can find remote access manual in the middle of the webpage. Also you can find here information about printing and copying and possibilities for renewing due dates. On the right side there is information about user registration and study room reservation. Also you can ask questions via the online form and you will receive a reply via e-mail within 24 hours.

Estonian online catalogue ESTER www.ester.ee Estonian online catalogue ESTER is a shared catalogue of 17 Estonian biggest libraries. You can choose, do you want to search all libraries in Tallinn or choose a particular library. To find books from our library, choose TTÜ Library (Akadeemia tee 1) from the drop-down menu in the left. You can search books by keyword, author, title, etc. Very useful are the self service opportunities of My ESTER, which is your personal area in the catalogue, where you can see your checkouts and renew due dates by yourself. Instructions to log in to My ESTER you will get by user registration or from the librarian in the Helpdesk.

Library Tours 11.–15. September and 9.–13. October 9.00–16.00 Guided library tours will be organized on 11.–15. September and 9.–13. October. Tours start on every hour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and last 30 minutes.
