1 Searching the Library Catalogue
An Introduction  Library and Learning Spaces Last updated September 2016

2 To access the catalogue select Student/Staff Gateway on the University homepage, then Library

3 From the library homepage select Library Catalogue
Change this to library catalogue when get rid of old one – done!

4 You can search the catalogue for an author, a title or using keywords to describe your search
Let’s search for items on the history of Liverpool as an example liverpool history Then click on Search

5 Quickly page through to find the best matches
You can do a lot with the results generated Re-sort the list e.g. newest first Quickly page through to find the best matches Refine Your Search is a lot of results, so you select to narrow the number in some way

6 Here are the ways you can choose to refine your search
NB You can also access e-books via the catalogue

7 Another way to make your search more specific or relevant is to select Advanced Search

8 Here, other options can be selected to add to your original search for example adding an author’s name

9 Information, including where to find the item in the library, can be found in the full item record
For the full item record either click on the title or Check Availability

10 There’s a lot of information on the full record
The catalogue links to works by the same author or other similar works You can see when copies out on loan are due back NB Book means it can be borrowed for 2 weeks Note the different loan periods for each copy You will need these details for your reference Check here for the location of the item This shelfmark is the information you need to find the book on the shelf Click Expand All to see loan details

11 You can also save items to a list for future use
You can see (1) has appeared here. Click on the My Resources tab A pop-up box will appear. Enter a name for the list and click Save ASSIGNMENT 1 Click on Save to add items to your list

12 Remember – lists are temporary for that session

To keep the list you need to login to your personal space Go to My Account You have now saved this book to your list called ‘Assignment 1’ Here are the details of how to get your PIN You need the whole number, no space, no dash Enter your Borrower Number here Then enter your PIN here Now click on Login

13 What else can I do in My Account?
Always remember to Logout when you have finished You can renew any or all your items You can see what you have on loan and check due dates You can change your PIN in Settings You can also pay any library charges online

14 Reservations - items on loan to another borrower can be reserved
Click on Reserve this item
