3 Learning Objectives To provide a mechanism for residents to access the most current optometry, ophthalmology, vision science, and medically related information To familiarize residents with specific information resources and library services to support residents’ research and patient care needs To familiarize residents with evidence-based practice and life-long learning techniques

Short walk from the Optometry building Comprehensive print and online collections Friendly, welcoming staff Open until 12:00 a.m. Sunday-Thursday during Fall and Spring semesters Hours posted at Checkout Laptops, iPads, & cameras at Reserve Desk Wi Fi hot spots throughout the building Comfortable seating and study environments

1st Floor – Reserves, Audiovisuals, Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Computers, Scanners & Printers 2d Floor – Journals, Newspapers, Special Collections, Computers, Scanners & Printers 3d Floor – Books, Government Documents, Optometry Librarian (305B) Books & Journals shelved by Library of Congress call numbers. Most Vision Science titles found in R, RE, and Q areas

12 Quick Access to Full Text Articles
Find All Full Text Optometry Journals by Title Click on the A-Z Pad from the Optometry web page Links display to all Optometry journals that provide full text

13 Access to Older Full Text Articles
Note the “dates” available online from the Optometry A-Z Journal List Some journals that are not online may be available in the print collection located in the John Vaughan Library For example, the journal Ophthalmologica is online beginning in 2012, but it is in the print collection beginning in 1977 To obtain articles older than 2012, submit an Interlibrary loan request. Library staff will scan the article from the print journal and the pdf to you

Find all Full Text Health Sciences Journals by Title Under “Health Sciences Journals by collection”, click on the database link, e.g., Clinical Key, Science Direct, NSU Enter the full title of the journal you want to find Select the year, volume, and issue number

Click on PDF icon in search results If PDF link is not available, search by optometry journal title from the A-Z List

19 Remote Access Enter NT-NSU user id and password to access the library’s electronic resources Contact Tom Tinnell if you have problems with your user id or password Contact Sandra to report other technical problems or for search assistance

20 E-Books Click on the links under e-Books to search by book title
Subject searches in Clinical Key automatically retrieve full text book chapters in all medical specialties Access Medicine contains full text books in both clinical medicine and basic sciences

21 Print Book Collection John Vaughan Library Main Collection – 3d Floor (Call Number Sections: RE, R, Q) Click on “Catalog: Books & More” under Library Info to locate print books

22 Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery
Services Scan and PDFs of articles from older journals in the library’s print collection – you do not have to pull print journals from the shelf and scan or photocopy Deliver books from the library’s print book collection Deliver books and journal articles not owned by the library Journal articles delivered electronically Books mailed postage free; you pay return postage ILL Requests Click on Interlibrary Loan link from Optometry Web Page Complete first time user registration Logon & create online request form for articles and books
