3 Your Library card Your College ID card is your library card. You can borrow immediately. You can use the Library for reference with the letter offering you a place on the course. Print off a temporary card once enrolled via MyBirkbeck

4 Opening hours Term time: Mon-Sun 8.30am -11.45pm Service hours : Mon-Fri 10.00am - 10.30pm Sat & Sun 10.00am - 6pm Check web site for vacation times, adverse weather conditions etc. You will need to use the self-service machines during less busy times.

6 Borrowing rights UGs 10 books PGs 15 books 3-week/ 1-week/ 1-day/ reference only Overdue books are subject to a fine 25 pence per day for 3-week loan 50 pence for 1-week loan £5 per day for 1-day loans! You will be prompted via your BBK email to renew books as long as no one else has requested them

7 Library catalogue Available from the Library web site. Lists all the Library’s physical resources as well as electronic books & electronic journals. Reserve books which are on loan. Enables you to look up your library account. Renew your library books.

8 Please check the Library catalogue carefully! To find a book quickly type in the author’s surname and two words from the title of the book. Different editions will be listed separately. If we have a book in electronic as well as print format it will be listed twice.

9 Reading Room Collection On level 1 Essential items put there at a lecturer’s request It is helpful to return items to the collection if you take them to other Levels Does your module have materials on Moodle?

11 Birkbeck eLibrary  Lists over 30,000 ejournals  When searching for a journal article use the eLibrary index: type in the title of the journal in which the article appeared.  Over 50 research databases  And newspaper databases eg. Nexis – a newspaper database and Times Digital Archive  Accessible from outside the College with your ITS username and password

13 IT Services username and password  If you have forgotten this, go to ITS service desk in the MyBirkbeck student centre.  You need it to use the computers within the Library and other ITS workstation rooms  You need it to photocopy and to print  You can put credit into your account by online payment, or use the machine next to the photocopiers.
