Presentation transcript:

5 parts of the circulatory system Blood Arteries Veins Capillaries heart

Function of the circulatory system Carry materials such as oxygen and dissolved nutrients to all cells and carry waste such as carbon dioxide away from all cells

Arteries Carries blood away from the heart They are thicker and stretch more than veins because they are under more pressure from the blood

veins Carry blood to the heart and have less pressure

Capillaries Connect arteries and veins They are one cell thick and this is where nutrients and gasses such as oxygen and carbon dioxide enter and leave cells

4 parts of blood Red Blood cells White blood cells plasma platelets

Red blood cells Carry gases such as oxygen

White blood cells Fight infections

Platelets Clot Blood

plasma Liquid part of blood Carries dissolved nutrients

Function of heart valves To keep blood flowing in one direction and to stop the blood from going backwards

Chambers of the heart Atrium- top Ventricles- bottom

Blood types A B AB- can receive any blood O-can give to any blood type
