1 7.L.3B.2 Construct explanations for how systems in the human body (including circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous, and musculoskeletal systems) work together to support the essential life functions of the body.

2 Circulatory system

3 Main function The main function of the circulatory system is to transport blood to all parts of the body so that gases, nutrients, and waste products are transported to and from the cells

4 3 major parts of the circulatory system
Blood Vessels - routes blood travels Heart – pumps or pushes blood through body Blood – carries important “ *stuff ” through body Stuff includes oxygen, food, and waste

5 Blood vessels Blood Vessels resemble very long and skinny tunnels that are all through your body.

6 3 types of blood vessels Arteries Capillaries Veins

7 Arteries Carry blood Away from the heart
Carries blood that has oxygen & nutrients to all parts of the body

8 Move waste products from parts of the body back to the heart & lungs
Veins Move waste products from parts of the body back to the heart & lungs

9 Capillaries Connecting arteries & veins
Oxygen & nutrients leave blood to go into cells Carbon dioxide & waste products enter blood from cells exchange

10 The heart 4 chambers ( or compartments )
2 upper chambers : Left Atrium Right Atrium 2 lower chambers : Left Ventricle Right Ventricle

11 Blood 4 parts Plasma Red blood cells White blood cells Platelets

12 Plasma Liquid part of blood

13 Red blood cells Carry oxygen to all parts of the body

14 Fight and kill germs that may enter your bloodstream
White blood cells Fight and kill germs that may enter your bloodstream

15 Form scabs when you cut yourself Help stop bleeding
