Objectives To understand the two (2) part process for obtaining the materials to apply for post-secondary education including: Transcript Request Form/Process Teacher Recommendation Requests/Process College Application Checklist Materials

Types of Admission Early Decision Early Action Priority Deadline Early deadline, early response, BINDING Early Action Early deadline, early response, NON-BINDING Priority Deadline Students apply by an earlier deadline, and receive priority over students who do not meet the deadline. Decisions are also made earlier Rolling Admission Students are accepted/denied as applications are received. Regular Admission Apply by regular deadline (i.e. Jan 15) and hear a response by April 1

Part 1: Mt. Hebron (Cont.) PURPLE CHECKLIST!! Think of this as your TO DO list. If you consider every item on this checklist you won’t miss a step! Folders include checklist

Part 1: Mt. Hebron (Cont.) Transcripts: A transcript is an official copy of a student’s academic record. It includes: Course names from grades 9-11 Final grade for each course 12th grade course names Weighted and Unweighted GPAs and Class Ranks Rank will be run the first week of October No Test scores will be sent (SAT, PSAT, ACT, AP, HSA, PARCC)

The Transcript Request Form (blue form in the blue folder) Students will need to: Submit BLUE transcript request form to Student Services First three(3) are free, $2 for each additional transcript Students can pay using cash, check or online with credit If a student pays online with credit the blue form must be turned in with a print out of the online receipt.

The Transcript Request Form (blue form in the blue folder) How transcripts are sent: Official transcripts for college/universities accepting electronic transcripts will be sent by your counselor via Naviance Official transcripts for schools that DO NOT accept electronic transcripts, will be mailed by the Student Services Office

Teacher Recommendation Letters (Yellow form in blue folder) Look on college/university websites to determine how many letters each college requires. Complete/Update the Teacher/Counselor Input form on Naviance (‘About Me’) Request letters in person -Recommendation Letter Request Form (yellow) and electronically via Naviance Follow up with a thank you note to the teacher/counselor for writing your recommendations!

Inviting Teacher on Naviance DO THIS UNDER IMPORTANT: Make sure you turn your blue transcript form in BEFORE you do this. step DO THIS UNDER Colleges Tab “Letters of Recommendation” Select your teacher (drop down menu) Click colleges you want that teacher to send a letter to Add a personal note to the teacher…a quick thank you would be nice! Click ‘Submit Request’

IMPORTANT REMINDERS Counselors and teachers CANNOT send transcripts or letters until you: Turn in pink waiver to get blue folder Turn in the blue form to Registrar in Student Services Connect your Naviance and Common App Accounts Give teachers their yellow forms Add letter of recommendation requests to Naviance (‘Colleges’ tab)

Additional Forms Part 1: Mt. Hebron (Cont.) Secondary School Reports/ Teacher Evaluation Forms/ School Counselor Forms Additional Forms DON’T WORRY– teachers and counselors will send these forms with our recommendations, if needed. You do not need to provide us with these forms.

Part 2: The Home Process Finalize college list (5-8) Apply to college via colleges website, Common or Coalition App Write college essays if needed English 12 teachers are here to help! Send SAT or ACT scores to colleges NCAA- see Mr. Miles with questions Research Financial Aid/Scholarships

Part 2: The Home Process Sending SAT & ACT Scores It is YOUR responsibility to send your scores to colleges/universities SAT: collegeboard.org ACT: actstudent.org

Part 2: The Home Process Financial Aid FAFSA- Can be submitted as early as October 1 https://fafsa.ed.gov/ CSS Profile http://css.collegeboard.org/ Scholarships From companies/organizations Can be found via Naviance, CollegeBoard, FinAid, etc. From a college Merit/athletic Need-based (FAFSA and/or CSS Profile are typically required)
