Registration Form English 9 Write in the course number next to the English course choice. Honors English 9:  Pro/Adv on ELA CST  A in AB Language  Teacher recommendation

Registration Form PE  Write in the number next to Physical Education choice.  Students who wish to take 2 electives, creating an impacted schedule, may take lunch or zero period PE  Fine Art electives do not count towards an impacted schedule

Registration Form  Write in the course numbers for Geog/Health  There is an option for students with impacted schedules to take these courses during summer school.  Fine Art electives do not count towards an impacted schedule  Students must be Pro/Adv on ELA CST to qualify for summer school

Registration Form Math  Write in the course number next to the Math course choice.  Students are placed in math classes based on teacher recommendation and semester grade (high B or above), as well as other criteria.  Honors Alg. 2- placement test in May

Registration Form Science  Write in the course number next to the Science course choice.  Students in Math 1 or lower math course must take Science 1.  Students requesting Biology or Honors Biology must be concurrently enrolled in Math 2 or higher math course.  Students requesting Honors Biology must also have scored Advanced on the CST-ELA portion of the state exam.

Registration Form Science  Students who completed Biology in 8 th grade will move on to Chemistry if that student is concurrently enrolled in Algebra 2.

Registration Form Electives  Write the course number in the box provided  Please choose electives carefully! Unless there are special circumstances, students must remain in their chosen elective for the entire school year.  All students will need to choose 2 Alternate Elective courses.

Foreign Language  Spanish and French are offered  3.0 GPA and Pro/Adv. on CSTs ELA  Enrollment based on availability  2 years of Foreign Language is required by the CSU/UC systems. 3 years recommended for UC  If your student doesn’t meet the prerequisites for Foreign Language this year, its recommended that they take a Fine Art course to fulfill the one year Fine Art requirement for CSU/UC systems.

Other Elective Options Performing Arts  Most performing art electives have unlimited seating Application Electives (A)  Applications were due January 24 th, which included recommendations from each teacher (Peer Counseling, Leadership,& Yearbook)

AVID  AVID is an elective class offered to students who would like to prepare for four-year universities.  The curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note-taking and study skills, as well as college, career, and motivational activities.  Students must commit to taking notes in subject-area classes on a daily basis.  Other requirements for applicants are satisfactory citizenship, good attendance, and a G.P.A. of

Academic Interventions English Lab (Read 180)  Below Basic or Far Below Basic on CST  Individualized and computerized instruction to improve reading skills Math Tutorial  Students may be recommended by their math teacher for this intervention class  It is an additional math class for students who would benefit from support in Math 1

Summer School 2014 Purpose: Summer school is primarily designed for remediation or making up deficiencies toward graduation. Location: Clovis North Dates:TBA Independent Study TBA Regular Summer School Time: 8:00 – 5:00 Tuesday and Wednesday (Ind. California High School Exit Exam  Need to pass during the Sophomore, Junior or Senior year.  Taken once during Sophomore year, and multiple times in subsequent years. Passing Score is 350 for ELA and Math

PSAT/PLAN  PSAT- practice for the SAT  PLAN- practice for the ACT (Both will be administered in October 2014) (Registration forms for both exams will be found in the fall registration packet)

State Assessment  This is an important test that students take once a year in each of the core areas.  These results are used for class and for summer school placement.

NCAA  There are course and GPA requirements for the NCAA Div 1 and 2.  NCAA requires 16 Core Courses. 10 of the 16 core courses must be complete before the 7th semester (senior year) of high school. 7 of the 10 core courses must be in English, Math, or Science.  If your student is interested in college athletics, speak with your counselor as soon as possible to discuss the NCAA requirements and steps to eligibility  You can visit the NCAA website for more information
