4 New Courses for Exploration of Child and Adolescent Literature (HP- Honors/Weighted)- English course for 10th grade students in the Education Pathway Exploring Computer Science- elective course part of the new Software and Systems Development Pathway Pre-requisite- B or better in Math 1 Computer Aided Design and Engineering Geology Passing grade in Biology; however do not meet the prerequisite for Chemistry These courses will be offered based on student enrollment

5 10th Grade Schedule Honors English 10 (Honors weighted):
A in English 9 or A/B in Honors English 9 Consistently score an 8 or better on essays graded on a 10 point rubric Exploration of Child and Adolescent Literature (Honors weighted) Must be in the Education Pathway 2.5 GPA requirement Link to application:

6 10th Grade Schedule PE Write in the number next to Physical Education choice. Sports PE- write course number for your specific sport (.A , .B, etc.) Students who wish to take 2 electives, creating an impacted schedule, may take lunch or zero period PE Fine Art electives do not count towards an impacted schedule

Write in the course number for World History AP World History A or B in Honors English 9 A in English 9

8 AP Courses Student should have: solid work ethic, self motivated, solid reading, writing and thinking skills Students taking AP courses are expected to take the AP exam in May AP courses may include a summer assignment Students will be required to complete the CNEC AP Agreement form before being enrolled Students will not be allowed to enroll in additional AP courses once school starts! You have up until the end of the 4th week to drop.

9 World History in Summer School
There is an option for students with impacted schedules and a 3.0 GPA to take this course during summer school. NEW INFORMATION: Social Science courses (World History or US History) can only be taken ONE time during Summer School for original credit. Fine Art electives do not count towards an impacted schedule

14 10th Grade Schedule Electives
Write the course number in the box provided Please choose your electives carefully! Unless there are special circumstances, students must remain in their chosen elective for the entire school year. All students will need to choose 2 Alternate Elective courses. Consider class choices to be FINAL. NO schedule changes will be made unless there is an incorrect placement. IMPORTANT: Class balancing takes place within the first two weeks of the school year. Class schedules MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

15 World Language Spanish, and French are offered- no prerequisites are necessary. Enrollment based on availability (more space is available in French) 2 years of World Language is required by the CSU/UC system

Performing Arts Most performing art electives have unlimited seating Application Electives (A) Applications were due February 2nd which included all teacher recommendations (Peer Counseling, Leadership, Service Leadership (Unified Mentoring) & Yearbook)

18 Academic Intervention
Study Skills (English Lab): to provide intervention and support and assist students in English based curriculum focused on ensuring growth in reading, writing, and vocabulary to provide organizational skills and study strategies Placement: students who score a 2 on the English portion of the SBAC test teacher recommendation Math Tutorial Students may be recommended by their math teacher for this intervention class It is an additional math class for students who would benefit from support in Math 1

19 Summer School Students planning to apply to a 4 year college should repeat any semester grades of D. Students who received an F should repeat those courses over the summer to meet graduation requirements Be sure to indicate which course you need to repeat on your registration form under Summer School Plans NEW INFORMATION: Social Science courses (World History or US History) can only be taken ONE time during Summer School for original credit. PE CORE is offered over the summer for one year or 10 credits only for ORIGINAL credit during summer school

Purpose: Summer school is primarily designed for remediation or making up deficiencies toward graduation. Location: Alta Sierra Intermediate School (Independent Studies & Face to Face) Independent Study Summer School Dates: June 12th-July 25th IMPORTANT: Students cannot miss orientation!!! Orientation is June 12th OR June 13th. Regular Summer School Dates: June 18 – July 26 Time: 8:30am-2:35pm ***IMPORTANT: Summer school session preferences are not guaranteed.*** Attendance: Students will be dropped on their 2nd absence No exceptions will be made. DRESS CODE WILL BE ENFORCED

Refer to your course catalog online Remember- the catalog includes courses offered at all High Schools in CUSD. Take home these materials and review them with your parents No parent signature = no registration! AP contracts will be due at registration Students will not be allowed to enroll in additional AP courses once school starts! You have up until the end of the 4th week to drop. Registration form is due to your English teacher on February 23rd. Registration will be on Feb 28th and March 1st in the Library Lecture Hall.
