3 11 th Grade Schedule  Refer to the course list on the back of your form  New course offerings are indicated with an asterisk (*)  Refer to course catalog online at www.cusd.com/students/  Write selected course number in the Number column

4 11 th Grade Schedule English 11 Write in the course number next to the English course choice. AP Composition:  A or B in Hnrs Eng 10 or A in Eng 10  3.5 GPA or higher  Teacher recommendation

5 11 th Grade Schedule PE  Write in the number next to Physical Education choice. Sports PE- write course number for your specific sport (.A,.B, etc.)  Cross-Age PE requires a signature from your current PE teacher.  Dance 1- Will meet PE or Fine Art requirements (must have completed 4 semesters of Core PE)  Students with 2 or more AP classes have the option of Directed Studies PE, if 4 sem. of Core PE is complete.  CART and ROP will waive PE; if 4 sem. of Core PE is complete.

6 11 th Grade Schedule US History  Write in the course number for US History AP US History  A or B in Eng 10/H. Eng 10  A or B in World History/AP World  Teacher recommendation

7 AP Courses  Student should have: solid work ethic, self motivated, solid reading, writing and thinking skills  Students taking AP courses are expected to take the AP exam in May  AP courses may include a summer assignment  Be aware of your course load. A balanced schedule is important  Students will be required to complete the CNEC AP Agreement before being enrolled

8 US History in Summer School  There is an option for students with impacted schedules to take this course during summer school.  Fine Art electives do not count towards an impacted schedule  3.0 GPA (1 st semester grades)

9 11 th Grade Schedule Math/Elective  Write in the course number next to the Math/Elective course choice.  Students are placed in math classes based on semester grade  You need 2 years of math to graduate (Math 1 and Math 2)  CSU/UC require 3 years (up through Math 3), but 4 years is recommended

10 11 th Grade Schedule Science/Elective  Write in the course number next to the Science/Elective course choice.  Students who have completed Biology may move on to Chemistry  Honors Chemistry- A in Biology, concurrent enrollment in Math 3, and teacher recommendation  You need 1 Year of Life Science and 1 Year of Physical Science to graduate  The minimum requirement for CSU/UC is Biology and Chemistry/Physics, but 3 years is recommended

11 11 th Grade Schedule Electives  Write the course number in the box provided  Please choose your electives carefully! Unless there are special circumstances, students must remain in their chosen elective for the entire school year.  All students will need to choose 2 Alternate Elective courses.

12 World Language  Spanish and French are offered  2 years of World Language is required by the CSU/UC system (3 years is highly recommended)

13 Other Elective Options Performing Arts  Most performing art electives have unlimited seating Application Electives (A)  Applications were due Jan. 30 th which included all teacher recommendations (Peer Counseling, Leadership,& Yearbook) CART/ROP  Speak with your counselor about these course options  CART requires an application, that was due by February 13 th  ROP does not require an application  Refer to your brochures for additional information

14 AVID  AVID is an elective class offered to students who would like to prepare for four-year universities.  The curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note- taking and study skills, as well as college, career, and motivational activities.  Students must commit to taking notes in subject-area classes on a daily basis.  Helpful for students who struggle with time management/organization  Other requirements for applicants are satisfactory citizenship, good attendance, Pro/Adv on CST and a G.P.A. of 2.5-3.9.

15 Academic Intervention English Lab (Read 180)  Students who did not pass the ELA portion of the CAHSEE will be enrolled in Eng. Lab during the summer or during junior year.  Individualized and computerized instruction to improve reading skills  To ensure that struggling readers have an explicit and accelerated path to college and career readiness by improving their reading and writing skills.

16 Summer School  Students planning to apply to a 4 year college should repeat any semester grades of D.  Students who received an F should repeat those courses over the summer to meet graduation requirements  Be sure to indicate which course you need to repeat on your registration form under Summer School Plans

17 Summer School Purpose: Summer school is primarily designed for remediation or making up deficiencies toward graduation. Location: Buchanan High School Dates:Independent Study Summer School Dates: June 16 th - July 29 th (students cannot miss orientation on June 16 th or 17 th ) Regular Summer School Dates: June 22 nd – July 30 th Time: 8:30am-2:35pm Attendance: Students will be dropped on their 2 nd absence. No exceptions will be made.
