The Group Administrator is responsible for managing the Group’s settings and content pages as well as encouraging online group interaction and collaboration. The Group Administrator has the following rights: Manage Group settings for visibility and privacy Invite new Group participants Manage content, including the posting of documents and files Post announcements Manage who else has rights to administer Group 8 Group Admin Responsibilities

Self-Forming Groups Two types of Groups on ASME.org: –Official ASME Groups – all existing ASME Groups (e.g. Sections, Sub-sections, Groups, Student Sections) –Self-Forming Groups – groups which registered online participants can initiate (e.g. Uruguay) or other areas where no official ASME group Self-Forming Groups will not be able to use names that are being used by Official ASME Groups or another Self-Formed Group. (e.g. Section, Sub-section, Student Section) 9

Self-Forming Groups Any registered participant can initiate the process. Once it is set up, then the participant forming the Group can invite others to join. Guidelines for Self-Forming Groups: –Does not duplicate an already existing Group (either Official or Self-Formed). –Is relevant to ASME’s mission. 10

How to Set up Self-Forming Groups Click on “Network” from Select “Directory” and scroll down and type in keywords that describe your desired group (e.g. Uruguay) to see if there are any existing groups If you get a message “no results found,” then your group won’t be a duplicate, and it’s OK to proceed Scroll down and click “**Create a New Group” (bottom left)**Create a New Group It will ask you to search again. Type in keywords again Scroll down and click “Continue to create a group.”Continue to create a group. Give the group a name, a description, select desired status Click “Create Group” 11

17 Group Admins can add announcements as well. This is located in the “Administration” section of the Group page, which is only open to Admins.

18 Here’s how Announcements come up on Activity Feeds. They’re “sticky” to the top.

19 Group Admins can create new pages, which will show up in the left-hand sidebar. Go to the Content Management page under Administration (only visible to Admins), and click “New Page.”

20 This is what comes up when you create a new page. Be sure to Preview the page before publishing

21 You can add files to the “Resources” page, which is a page dedicated to documents from your Section. Visit the “Resources” page in the sidebar, then select “Upload New File.”

22 Be sure to choose public or private depending on how visible you want it to be. Public is visible to everyone; private is only visible to Group participants.

Use your Section roster to get the word out –Be sure to include a direct link to your Group page to make it easy for your members to join once they’ve registered Want to increase participants? –Cross-promote on other social media outlets –Encourage all members to post and share –Comment on other Group pages 23 Encourage Section Members to Join!
