Presentation on theme: "1. Go to www.facebook.com. 2. Complete the requested information."— Presentation transcript:

1. Go to www.facebook.com

2. Complete the requested information.

3. Type in the words presented. This helps Facebook make sure that real people are signing up.

4. Confirm your registration by checking your email account for a message from Facebook.

5. Complete your Facebook registration by clicking on the link in your email.

6. Clicking the link in your email will send you back to Facebook’s site and officially create your account. Congratulations! You now have a Facebook profile! 7. The purpose of Facebook is to network with friends, family, colleagues, and other contacts. Facebook helps you get started with this process by asking you if you want to see if any of your email contacts also have Facebook profiles. Until you get used to Facebook, you might want to consider skipping this step. This way, you can set up your profile before you invite other people to see it.

8. Make it easy for people who may know you to find you by filling out details about yourself. One popular way for people to find each other is through alumni networks and work relationships.

9. Again, Facebook wants to make it as easy as possible for you to find people you might know. In this case, Facebook is checking to see if this person wants to network with anyone who attended the same high school this person attended. Until you get used to Facebook, you might want to consider skipping this step. This way, you can set up your profile before you invite other people to see it.

10. More ways that Facebook helps you connect. Until you get used to Facebook, you might want to consider skipping this step. This way, you can set up your profile before you invite other people to see it.

11. Congratulations! You made it through the set up! 12. Now it’s time to customize your profile. Add photos & videos, write notes about yourself or things in which you are interested, join groups, post events … the list goes on and on.

13. First, add a profile picture. Fellow Facebook-ers get annoyed with those who don’t add photos because unless they see your “mug” they won’t know for sure whether or not it’s really you. Adding a picture is as easy as browsing for the picture file on your computer – just make sure to use a “.jpg”, “.png”, or “.gif” file.

14. When you are finished making all the desired edits to your information, click “done editing”. Add as little or as much information as you would like others you invite to be your “friends” to see.

15. Once you finish editing your information, Facebook will take you to your new profile. Click on the “Wall” tab to see the page most of your “friends” will see when they first visit.

16. Now comes the fun part! Find people you know who also have Facebook profiles and become their “friends”. When you become a “friend” with someone on Facebook, they can view your profile and you can view theirs. It’s kind of pathetic not to have any friends, so make sure to search for a few! :0)

17. Each time you log into Facebook from now on, you will start on your “Home”. You can also get to your “Home” at any time by clicking on the link above. To get back to your profile, click on the “Profile” link or click on your name.

18. Your “Home” page has your “News Feed”. This is where you will be able to see any updates your “friends” have made to their profiles. Also, when your “friends” log into their accounts, they will see any updates you have made to your profile in their news feeds.

19. “Status Updates” are very popular in Facebook. This is where you can tell all your friends what you are up to at any given moment. Headed out of town and want to connect with old friends? Change your “status” to indicate which city you will be in and ask if anyone is available to meet up. You will be able to comment on your “friends’” status updates and they can comment on yours. Note: Witty status updates are appreciated by experienced Facebook-ers. Be creative!

20. “Applications” are little programs created by Facebook users to help you spice up your profile and have fun with your Facebook friends. For example, during the winter, don’t be surprised if a friend uses an application to throw a virtual snowball at you!

21. Last, but certainly not least, make sure to become a “fan” of the ATTC Network Facebook page. The easiest way to find pages is to delete everything up to the word “pages” in the web address. http://www.facebook.com/pages/

22. On the “pages” page, type “Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network” in the search box to find our page.

23. Click on “Become a Fan” to post our page on your profile!

Have Fun! Experiment! When in doubt, use “help” at the very bottom of the screen!
