Bell Ringer Welcome to Open House! I’m Ms. Barker. Your child’s English/Language Arts (ELA) teacher. We’ll get started in a moment with a 10- minute glimpse into your child’s day in ELA.

Housekeeping Announcements: Next Make-Up Monday is 9/14. Tomorrow is the first early release of the year. Today is the last day I’ll accept summer reading assignments. Be sure to staple rubrics to them & turn them in! Home Learning: –Lit. books needed next class –Optional: buy a copy of The Outsiders Paper Pass Back

Syllabus Be sure you have a copy of the: 1.ELA Syllabus This document will answer most questions you’ll have about my class. It does NOT need to be signed again. This is just a copy for your reference.

Absence Policy & Resources Students have 1 day for every day missed to make up work. Therefore, if a student misses 2 classes in a row, they have 2 days to make up the work before it’s considered late. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what they missed. They may do so, by checking the Absence folder on the back, blue counter. I write student’s names on the papers, so they are guaranteed a copy of the work and I know who has not claimed their absent work.

Class Blog Class Blog: Sections: –Announcements –Assignments –Home Learning *NOTE: I teach 6 th & 7 th Grade. Be sure you’re looking at the correct section.

Grades Please refer to the back of the Syllabus

No Name Papers Wall I date stamp all papers I receive, so there is no penalty for a paper found here. Also, I do not grade papers until they have a clear owner, so students the No Name Paper Wall does not all students to “shop for grades.” If there is a zero in FOCUS, please have your child check here first. If found, the student writes their name, date, period, and title of the assignment in the top, right corner of the paper and submits it to their class inbox. It’ll be graded in the order that it is received. The real natural consequence of forgetting to head a paper appropriately…

Paper Pass Back With an A Day/B Day schedule, holidays, etc. there is no set time to pass back papers. Instead, we pass back papers when assignments have been graded and entered into FOCUS. Students are always welcome to visit the Paper Pass Back bin on their own, so long as it is not disruptive or during the lesson, and get their papers between Paper Pass Backs. Students are responsible for holding onto papers for each quarter and may get rid of them after the next quarter has started.

Pride Rock After a Paper Pass Back, students may place papers they’re particularly proud of on the round table and I’ll hang it on the Pride Rock Bulletin Board.

How to Check Out a Book from Ms. Barker’s Library: 1.When not interrupting or disruptive to a lesson, select a book. 2.Remove the card from the back/front of the book. 3.Fill out the card like so: 4.Hand completed card to Ms. Barker 5.Only books where the card has been given to Ms. Barker may leave class Today’s DateBorrower’s Name Date Returned 09/08/15Arturo Turtle Ms. Barker will fill out when you return book. First Column = Second Column = Third Column= BLANK

How to Return a Book to Ms. Barker’s Library: 1.When not interrupting or disruptive to a lesson, write the following information on a post-it note: –First AND Last Name –Today’s date 2.Stick post-it note to front of book and drop in the return bin on the bottom shelf.

Lost & Found Should a student lose an item in my class, it’ll be placed in the Lost & Found bin. At the end of the week, it’ll be taken to the school-wide Lost & Found in the Main Office.

Question & Answer If I do not get to answer your question, or it is of a personal nature, please feel free to me at:

Packing Up Does our cart look like how it started?

Closing – Exit Slip Thank you for supporting your child! If you’re interested in contributing to our class, please take a post-it (near the door) with an item from the class’ wish list that you choose to donate.
