1 Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement
It’s A Hard Rock Life To prepare for the lesson on Investigating the Weathering of Rocks watch “Mr. Heath’s Weathering and Erosion Song” video SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Using your assigned device, log into Blackboard and click on Mr. Savoie’s Blackboard. Click the link “Mr. Heath’s Weathering and Erosion Song”. Click the “play” button. Watch video. This task uses: EdPuzzle Learning Objective(s): What does weathering of rocks mean and what could cause a rock to weather. TEACHER NOTES: The teacher will need create an account to put the link to this EdPuzzle on their Blackboard site. Teacher’s name/ Ron Savoie School: CPAS Louisiana State Standard: Distinguish between chemical and mechanical weathering and identify the role of weathering agents Grade Level/Subject: 8th Grade Earth Science Special Directions/Considerations: N/A Activity Evaluation: Ability to identify what causes a rock to weather Prerequisites for students: N/A

2 A An Eroding Vocabulary
Compete with others in a game of Kahoots to identify definitions of terms associated with the Physical and Chemical Erosion of Rocks AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. Using your assigned device, log into Blackboard and click Mr. Savoie’s Blackboard. Click the link to Kahoots To join the game enter game code Compete to see who can properly identify terms the fastest that are associated with the physical and chemical erosion of rocks. This task uses: Kahoots Learning Objective(s): Identify and define terms that describe the physical and chemical erosion of rocks. TEACHER NOTES: The teacher will need create an account to put the link to this Kahoot on their Blackboard site. Remember to change the code in #2 above. Teacher’s name/ Ron Savoie School: CPAS Louisiana State Standard: Distinguish between chemical and mechanical weathering and identify the role of weathering agents. Grade Level/Subject: 8th Grade Earth Science Special Directions/Considerations: N/A Activity Evaluation: Percentage of vocabulary terms identified correctly Prerequisites for students: N/A

3 Rock-n-Roll: The Weathering of Rocks
M Rock-n-Roll: The Weathering of Rocks You will take pictures of rocks before, during, and after the experiment to show the changes of rocks during the erosion process. Build a Google Slide to demonstrate what you’ve learned. MODIFICATION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable During Rock-n-Roll Investigating the Weathering of Rocks lab, collaborate with your lab partners take pictures of your rocks before, during and after the experiment to demonstrate the changes of rock formations as they erode. Collaborate with your lab partners by using your pictures and the information you learned in lab to create a Google Slide document with pictures and explanations of how rock formation changed during the experiment. Use the link below to create your Google Slide This task uses: Google Slide Learning Objective(s): Describe the differences between mechanical and chemical erosion of rocks TEACHER NOTES: The teacher needs to have a Google Account, create a Google Slide presentation permissions should be set to allow anyone with a link can edit with no log-in. Post the link in your teacher Blackboard. Teacher’s name/ Ron Savoie School: CPAS Louisiana State Standard: Distinguish between chemical and mechanical weathering and identify the role of weathering agents Grade Level/Subject: 8th Grade Earth Science Special Directions/Considerations: N/A Activity Evaluation: Properly explaining the differences between mechanical and chemical erosion of rocks Prerequisites for students: Student should be familiar with Google Slides.

4 R Rocks, Camera, Action You will share your knowledge about the weathering of rocks by collaborating with other students in class to make a video that properly explains the erosion of rocks in the weathering process. You will post your video on Padlet for other students to post comments about your video. REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable Work in assigned groups to make a video using an iPad that properly explains the erosion of rocks in the weathering process. Go to Mr. Savoie’s Blackboard and click the link to Padlet. Post video on Padlet to allow other classes to comment on the accuracy and quality of your video about the erosion of rocks in the weathering process. This task uses: Padlet Learning Objective(s): Properly explain the erosion process of rocks. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher will need to create a Padlet account in advance and post on teacher Blackboard. Teacher’s name/ Ron Savoie School: CPAS Louisiana State Standard: Distinguish between chemical and mechanical weathering and identify the role of weathering agents. Grade Level/Subject: 8th Grade Earth Science Special Directions/Considerations: N/A Activity Evaluation: Ability to properly explain the erosion process of rocks Prerequisites for students: N/A

5 IMPACT SAMR Cover Sheet
Teacher: Ron Savoie Louisiana Science Standard (include description): Distinguish between chemical and mechanical (physical) weathering and identify the role of weathering agents (e.g., wind, water, ice, gravity) (ESS-M-A3) Task Overview Learning Objective(s) Suggested Technology Collaborate with other students in class to make a video that explains the erosion of rocks. Post video in Padlet for other classes to write comments. Properly explain the erosion process of rocks Padlet Take pictures of rock formation changes during lab to demonstrate rock formation changes. Create a Google Slide presentation to show and describe changes.
