Teacher: Guidry Louisiana Math Standard (include description): S-CP.9: Permutations and factorials Task Overview Learning Objective(s) Suggested Technology Create and post a vlog on Blackboard. To find permutations with repetitions. iPad, iMovie, Blackboard Post your arrangements on Blackboard. Blackboard, computer or iPad Students will find the highest and lowest permutation of a word in 20 different categories. Students will find the highest and lowest permutation of a word in 20 different categories Graphing calculator REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. transformation MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign.. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. enhancement SUBSTITUTION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with no real change.

2 Permutations with Repetitions
Students will find the highest and lowest permutation of a word in 20 different categories. SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Use use a calculator to find permutations of several different words using the formula: Permutation of n things = n! / p!q!... Where p is repeated p times and q is repeated q times and so on. Choose 20 categories of which to choose two words, one of a small permutation and one of a large permutation. Categories should be big enough to have several words in them, but should also be limited as to not have an infinite list. Category examples are: colors, Louisiana city names, actors’ last name, and such. Give category list to teacher for final approval. Find how many ways your first, middle and last names can be arranged. This task uses: Scientific calculator Learning Objective(s): To find permutations with repetitions. 3 Permutations with Repetitions
Students will find the highest and lowest permutation of a word in 20 different categories. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. After the lesson in class, watch a video (posted on Blackboard) on permutations with repetitions to enhance the knowledge of how to find the permutation ( This task uses: Blackboard Learning Objective(s): To find permutations with repetition Teacher’s name/ KDGuidry / School: Westlake High School Louisiana State Standard: S-CP.9 Grade Level/Subject: 12/Statistics/Advanced Math/Calculus Special Directions/Considerations: Teacher’s approval of categories list Activity Evaluation: Participation and assessment grade Prerequisites for students: Permutations and factorials

4 significant task redesign.
M Blackboarding Post your arrangements on Blackboard MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign. Do your calculations for the arrangements for all of your words (there should be 40 of them). Log into Blackboard and post your calculations on your project and read other student’s posts to help each other, making sure you comment on at least three others. This task uses: Scientific Calculator Blackboard Learning Objective(s): To find permutations with repetition Teacher’s name/ KDGuidry / School: Westlake High School Louisiana State Standard: S-CP.9 Grade Level/Subject: 12/Statistics/Advanced Math/Calculus Special Directions/Considerations: Teacher’s approval of categories list Activity Evaluation: Participation and assessment grade Prerequisites for students: Permutations and factorials

5 R vlog Create and post a vlog on Blackboard. REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. Create a vlog on your procedures on solving permutations on iMovie using an iPad. Include the steps you used to complete the project along with anything you would do differently the next time. Close your vlog with a new problem. Post your video in Blackboard. Solve two other student’s vlog problems in a reply to their post. This task uses: iPad Camera Learning Objective(s): To find permutations with repetition Teacher’s name/ KDGuidry / School: Westlake High School Louisiana State Standard: S-CP.9 Grade Level/Subject: 12/Statistics/Advanced Math/Calculus Special Directions/Considerations: Teacher’s approval of categories list Activity Evaluation: Participation and assessment grade Prerequisites for students: Permutations and factorial
