Challenges of Life Watch the video and answer questions afterwards. SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement 1. Load the DVD “Life” and select the section called “Challenges of Life”. 2. Answer questions on the worksheet provided by the teacher and be ready to provide feedback on survival methods. This task uses: Laptops Headphones Life DVD Learning Objective(s) The students will be able to identify the challenges that are faced for everyday survival in different regions of the globe. 3 What is environmental science?
Take notes and review for Kahoot. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. Take notes from Ch. 1 PowerPoint displayed on the Promethean board. Quiz your shoulder partner using your notes (5 minutes) Pick up an iPad and click the Kahoot app. Enter code Play Kahoot to review key concepts from Ch. 1 This task uses: Promethean Board Chapter 1 flipchart iPads Kahoot Learning Objective(s) Students will have a better understanding of what environmental science is all about. 4 significant task redesign.
M Preventing pollution Read this article and see what happens when no one cares where they dump their trash. MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign. Read this article Using an iPad, find litter concerns in your assigned area on campus . Take at least five pictures that reflect the litter concern. Create a PowerPoint presentation that includes your pictures that you took from your assigned area. Provide at least two solutions on each slide of how we can eliminate the waste as well as prevent this from happening. In a Gallery Walk, review at least presentations. Use a post-it note to provide support or make suggestions for the two presentations you have reviewed. This task uses: Computer iPad Phones PowerPoint Learning Objective(s): Students will see the effects pollution can have on a specific area. They will also see the importance of properly disposing wastes. 5 R World news Learn and relay information on another country’s resources. REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. Join your assigned groups of 3 (2 news anchors and 1 cameraman) Choose a country and gather information on their resources and how they are used. Compare this country to the USA Film a 1 minute news report with an iPad of dialogue between the 2 news anchors about the similarities and differences between the 2 countries. Each group will post their video on the assigned Padlet. Review at least two videos posted by another class. Each group will leave a comment or suggestion to provide feedback on the video they reviewed. This task uses: iPad Apple tv to stream to board Padlet Learning Objective(s): Students will have another prospective to using the resources available to them and also how to preserve them. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Phillip School: Sulphur High (main campus) Louisiana State Standard: Analyze data to determine when reuse, recycling, and recovery are applicable (SE-H-B5) Identify the factors that affect sustainable development (SE-H-B6) Grade Level/Subject: High School Environmental Science Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students:
