6 th Graders, WOW, what a fantastic week this has been – Let’s Review The Wiki-Monster is on the loose Rubrics and your options will be posted I’m working on getting all these slides up Who are YOU –– I’ll take Attendance! Today’s writing is going to be tied to your Language Arts work. We are going to begin to Compare and Contrast

WHO ARE YOU? You are becoming more of your future every day – You ARE The College Class Of 2022!!!!! The BEST part is you are having and SHARING college level thinking. Can you feel it? – You will NOT find jobs…..you will create them – You already know more about the world then you did a week ago. Imagine what will happen if you learn at this pace for a YEAR

We ARE on an amazing journey into The Amazon Rainforest But first, “why are we taking notes and writing every day? – Your notes are for YOU, not me – We will have assessments next week – If you have taken good notes and written well you will ACE Today is going to be all about “Practice” – We are going to spend most of today finishing our posters because beginning Monday the presentations will begin – Maybe the people you thought you could reach out to have their OWN agenda OK, time to write Today’s prompt. ”Compare and contrast YOUR group with at least one other ” Your writing must include strong ideas from your research, the blog or the text book

Next Week Is going To Be Even Better – how is that possible? You get to stand in front of your class-mates and show off what you know, but more importantly, HOW you think – Let’s talk about that for a minute Every 4 years, 300 Million Americans decide the role of government, we are asking 6 th graders to do it in a week. Now that you can define, articulate and create icons for this chapter’s Geo-Terms we are going to get back into the ISN – piece of cake I will be presenting you with options, but here are some clues – Essay – Powerpoint presentation – Write a children’s picture story book, well, The Lorax has already been written – YouTube video of a newscast

Rubrics For Your Presentation – YES, you are being graded. D’OH Effective use of facts and data Clear voice, eye contact, PRESENCE Interactive without being confrontational High level of conviction and confidence but ALSO (this is going to be VERY important) Have you also addressed the reality of differences of opinion? Group Grade SELF Grade (“I deserve X, and why”) This is an honesty test

OK, so what ARE the rules? You will be called on pretty much every day Always say “please” and “thank you” I will not talk over you but will wave my hand to quiet the room – ALWAYS leave the room cleaner then you found it I PROMISE to never give lunch detention if you promise to never earn it – so far so good We are going to write EVERY day There are consequences for your behavior
