1 Welcome to Meet the Teacher Mrs. Hutcheson’s Fourth Grade 2010-11

2 While you are here today… 1.Find your child’s desk. 2.Look over the textbooks. 3.Fill out the forms on the table. 4.Explore the classroom!

4 Reading Each week we will read a new story from our Imagine It! reading text. On Fridays there will be a Lesson Assessment test and a Vocabulary test.

5 Accelerated Reader Your child will be reading books at their level during AR time and at home nightly. Your child will have weekly AR goals to meet. We are working toward earning our 75 point t- shirts. Your child will receive a weekly AR grade.

6 Math We will start right away on Math Facts in a Flash. Your child will have flashcards in their backpacks and should practice nightly. We are using Envision Math this year. There will still be nightly Math homework sheets. Tests will be given at the end of each math unit. Units run for 6 to 10 days.

7 Language Arts Weekly spelling tests will be taken on Friday. Students practice and take their tests on Spelling City. Each child will have their own password and can access Spelling City at home.

8 Writing Your child will take the FCAT Writing Test on March 1st. We will have 5 practice tests before then. We will learn both narrative and expository writing.

9 Science and Social Studies Science and Social Studies will often be taught in conjunction with the reading unit. We will use The Florida Studies newspaper to learn about Florida.

10 The Planner Your child will write the learning objectives in their planner each day. Homework will be written down as well. There will be a behavior and work habits grade each day. Parents must sign the planner every day.

11 Behavior Expectations Your child will be expected to follow school and class rules at all times. Daily behavior grades will be written in the planner. In order to learn all we need to as 4th graders, it is important that your child come to school ready to learn and focus every day.

12 Homework 30 minutes of AR reading EVERY night. Math Sheet Study spelling words. Practice math facts.

13 Communication Do not hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns. Use the planner to write notes and communicate. I will read that every day. You will receive a monthly newsletter. Check out our website www.mrshutcheson.wikispaces.com
