VOTE FOR ME!!!!!! THE REFINED ART OF PROPAGANDA...

WHAT IS PROPAGANDA? Influences the way people think or act Impacts and shapes: Ideas opinions actions Usually tells only one side of the story, distorts the truth, and appeals to emotions

glittering generalities Using words or phrases everyone agrees with For example: “I believe in freedom and equality for all.”

Virtue/Transfer Connecting yourself/your issue to a respected person, group, or symbol For example: “Uphold the ideas that the Constitution was created on--Vote yes on 44

Negative/Name-calling Attaching negative labels to the opponent or their ideas “Joe Schmo only supports the richest 1% of the population.” “Amendment 33 is bad for Colorado.”

Just Plain Folks Telling voters you are just ordinary people who feel like they do. “I’ve lived here all my life and love this town just as much as you, my neighbors, do.”

Bandwagon Playing on the fear of voters that they are being left out of the majority. “Recent survey shows that over 75% of voters approve a tax increase to help schools.”

Testimonial Use of a celebrity to persuade voters that famous people know what is best. “Lil Wayne is voting for President Obama, shouldn’t you?”

What do you think??? endorsements
