Welcome to Carlson Elementary! Mrs. Simpson’s Class Room #21

Attendance It is important that your child is at school everyday, and on time. Most assessments are done on Fridays-please make sure your child is here! If you know you’re going to be out of school for more than a day because of a trip or appointment, please send me a e-mail!

Reading 6 units that will be integrated with Science & Social Studies. Each unit is about 6 weeks long. Covers all Arizona common core standards. I will use a variety of literature including, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc. Students have their own reading textbooks that they will use occasionally, but the bulk of reading is done using authentic literature.

Saxon Math Daily Morning Meeting to review a variety of 3rd grade concepts Interactive daily Power point slides cover each concept objective. Homework reflects daily lesson

Spalding : Spelling Spalding Spelling Each week, students will be assigned 30 words. 10 words per day will be entered here at school in their Spalding journal and then again for practice at home for nightly homework. This will happen Monday-Wednesday. Students will practice marking their words and learn all 29 rules associated with the way in which English words are written. Pre-test all 30 words on Thursdays for homework Assessment on Friday

Spalding : Phonograms Phonogram Cards are practiced daily. 20 are selected each week to really focus on, those are identified on the back of the spelling list each week Assessed Friday Phonogram cards are available for purchase-feel free to ask me how to order them!

Serious violations-will be reported to school administration immediately, and child will follow school procedures.

Snacks/Birthdays Snacks can come to school daily (afternoon recess) When your child is star student, they can bring their favorite snack for the entire class (optional) on Friday. We do have peanut allergies in this class. NO PEANUTS are permitted!

Specials Students will go to a special (P.E., Music, Library & Lab) each day. On P.E. days students need to wear tennis shoes. When they go to library, they will check out 2 books. They can stay at school or home, and will be returned for the next library day to trade in for new books.
