Presentation transcript:

1 Scientific Method Learning Target: I can describe the steps in the scientific method.

1. Problem Statement What you want to know about and test Must be in the form of a specific QUESTION that includes both variables 2

2. Background Research RESEARCH your problem: –It helps you create your hypothesis and plan your experiment 3

3. Hypothesis/Informed Inference A hypothesis is an informed inference Based off of your background knowledge and research, infer what the results of your experiment will be. 4

4. Procedure The procedure is a DETAILED list of steps that you will use in your experiment It also includes the materials you will need 5

5. Data and Results Make a data table Record your observations Create a graph to represent your data visually 6

6. Conclusion Analyze your data and summarize your results (usually in a formal paragraph) –Was your hypothesis/informed inference true or false? –Was your data reliable and accurate? –What would you change in your experiment? –Why is this experiment important? 7
