Scientific Methods Scientific Methods are the ways in which scientists answer questions and solve problems.
Scientists often use the same steps but in different ways.
An easy way to remember these steps is called: DR HERC
D Define or state the problem as a question. DEFINE
R Gather information/*facts from various resources. Make **observations. O Define terms. O *Fact can be proven true. Opinion is someone’s feeling about a particular topic. O **Observations RESEARCH
H A statement that be proven true or false through experimentation or observation. A prediction written as an If…, then… because… statement. HYPOTHESIS
E List supplies/materials needed. List the step by step procedure. Perform the experiment. Identify variables, control, and constants. EXPERIMENT
R Record qualitative observations. Record and present quantitative observations/data as data tables, charts, graphs, or pictures. RESULTS
C Restate the hypothesis. Summarize results. State if results did or did not support the hypothesis. Suggest improvements to the experiment. CONCLUSION
