WELCOME! Mr. White 6 th Grade Earth Science

A LITTLE ABOUT ME THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR TEACHING EARTH SCIENCE. THIS IS MY THIRD YEAR AT GRIFFIN. I ALSO TEACH THE ISS CLASS AND AM THE TEAM LEADER FOR OUR POD. I WAS NOT TRAINED OR EDUCATED AS A SCIENCE TEACHER, I JUST REALLY LOVE SCIENCE AND TEACHING IT! I HAVE A 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I USED TO BE A POLICE OFFICER. I HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR MYSELF AS A TEACHER AND FOR YOU ALL AS STUDENTS! I SPONSOR THE SCIENCE CLUB WHERE WE WILL DO SCIENCE OLYMPIAD, ROCKETRY, ROBOTICS, AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE EXPLORATIONS!

MY CLASSROOM RULES ENTER THE CLASSROOM QUIETLY, PICK UP YOUR SCIENCE NOTEBOOK, AND GO DIRECTLY TO YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT. COMPLETE WARM-UP THAT IS ON BOARD, THIS WILL BE IMPORTANT FOR THE DAY’S ACTIVITIES. STAY IN YOUR SEAT, RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION, OR IF YOU NEED TO GET UP FOR ANY REASON. DO NOT BLURT OUT OR CALL MY NAME, I WILL ACKNOWLEDGE YOU IN DUE TIME. NO TALKING…NO EXCEPTIONS…WE WILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO TALK SCIENCE DURING CLASS BUT YOU MUST BE ON TOPIC AND TASK IN ORDER TO HAVE THESE OPPORTUNITIES, AND WHEN IT IS TIME TO BE QUIET…BE QUIET! BE ON TIME, BE POSITIVE, AND BE READY TO LEARN…BE PREPARED!

MY CLASSROOM RULES NO FOOD, NO GUM, AND NO DRINKS. THIS IS A SCIENCE LAB AND THESE ARE DANGEROUS TO HAVE IN A SCIENCE LAB, I WILL ALLOW A BOTTLE OF WATER. NO PASSES, RESTROOM BREAKS ARE SCHEDULED AND OTHER TRIPS WILL BE KEPT TO A MINIMUM, THIS GIVES US THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF CLASS TIME TO USE. HOMEWORK WILL BE GIVEN AND GRADED, YOU WILL FIND IT HELPFUL TO COMPLETE HOMEWORK AS IT WILL HELP YOU FINISH PROJECTS IN CLASS. YOU ARE EXPECTED TO BE RESPECTFUL IN BOTH YOUR LANGUAGE AND TONE TO ALL STAFF MEMBERS AND OTHER STUDENTS. NAME CALLING WILL RESULT IN CONSEQUENCES AND BULLYING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AT ALL. ALL CLASSROOM PROCEDURES WILL BE FOLLOWED AT ALL TIMES.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES TO START CLASS, PICK UP SCIENCE NOTEBOOK AND COMPLETE POSTED WARM-UP, YOU ONLY HAVE 5 MINUTES. COME TO CLASS PREPARED AND READY TO WORK, WE DO NOT HAVE TIME TO GO TO LOCKERS OR LOOK FOR BELONGINGS. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PENCIL, RAISE YOUR HAND AND YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO GET YOUR NUMBERED PENCIL FROM THE APPROPRIATE CUP. BE SURE TO REPLACE IT, THOSE WHO DO NOT LOSE THEIRS WILL RECEIVE A REWARD AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER. ALL HOMEWORK WILL BE WRITTEN DOWN IN YOUR AGENDA, IF YOU LOSE THAT THEN YOU MUST PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE FROM THE OFFICE. NO AGENDA, NO PASS, NO EXCEPTIONS. NO QUESTIONS DURING FIRST 5 MINUTES OF CLASS WHILE COMPLETING WARM-UP, THAT IS WHEN I DO MY ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES DURING DRILLS YOU WILL REMAIN QUIET AND FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS EXPLICITLY, THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES FOR NOT FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS AND FOR TALKING. ANYTIME WE LEAVE THE CLASSROOM AS A GROUP, WE WILL DO SO IN A STRAIGHT LINE, ONE BEHIND THE OTHER AND WITHOUT TALKING. YOU WILL SIT IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT EVERYDAY, NO EXCEPTIONS. I AM HERE, EVEN WHEN I AM NOT HERE…YOU WILL BEHAVE FOR THE SUBSTITUTE BETTER THAN YOU DO WHEN I AM HERE. NO ONE IS ALLOWED BEHIND MY DESK WITHOUT PERMISSION, THE CABINETS, AND BACK CLOSET AREA ARE ALSO OFF LIMITS. BREAK TIMES AND LUNCH ARE SCHEDULED, DO NOT REMIND ME IT IS GETTING CLOSE…I KNOW!

ARE YOU SCARED YET?

EXPECTATIONS IF YOU ARE OPEN MINDED AND POSITIVE, YOU WILL HAVE A BLAST IN THIS CLASS. GIVE ME YOUR BEST EFFORT EVERYDAY AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE A PROBLEM GETTING GOOD GRADES! ASK QUESTIONS, I WILL ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND, BUT YOU WILL NEED TO DO YOUR PART AND ASK FOR CLARIFICATION IF THERE IS SOMETHING YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND. BE ON TIME AND BE PREPARED, TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. WE HAVE LIMITED RESOURCES, TAKE CARE OF WHAT WE HAVE. I AM THE ONLY COMEDIAN IN THE ROOM…BUT WE MAY GIVE OTHERS A CHANCE TO MAKE US LAUGH!

EXPECTATIONS WORK SHOULD BE COMPLETED, NEAT, AND TURNED IN ON TIME. YOUR GRADE WILL REFLECT EACH OF THESE COMPONENTS. GROUP WORK IS JUST THAT AND YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO PULL YOUR OWN WEIGHT. GROUP MEMBERS WILL GRADE YOUR PERFORMANCE ON TASKS ASSIGNED. ALL LAB SAFETY RULES WILL BE FOLLOWED IN THE SCIENCE LAB, AND ESPECIALLY WHEN WE ARE CONDUCTING AN EXPERIMENT. YOU MAYBE ASKED, OCCASIONALLY, TO BRING ITEMS IN FOR DIFFERENT LESSONS. IF YOU CANNOT, PLEASE SEE ME PRIVATELY AND LET ME KNOW. MIDDLE SCHOOL IS QUITE DIFFERENT THAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, I EXPECT YOU ALL TO ACT LIKE YOUNG MEN AND YOUNG LADIES.

INSPIRATION CRAWL

WHAT LESSONS CAN WE LEARN? o DO OUR VERY BEST. o DON’T GIVE UP TOO EASILY. o STRIVE TO BE A GOOD EXAMPLE. o BE A LEADER. o SET HIGH EXPECTATIONS. o ALL OF US NEED ENCOURAGEMENT. THESE LESSONS APPLY TO STUDENTS AND TEACHERS !
