The Process n Review of the Design / Proposal by Installation n Job Folder - section for each subsystem n Wire Chart n On-site Walk Through n Pre-wire Verification n Change Orders n Trim-Out - trim head ends in advance n Hook-up and test (prior to Installation) n Finish Installation n As-builts n Client Manual

Review of the Design/Proposal by Installation Team n Talk to sales - know what they sold and client’s expectations n Verify the design will work n Confirm all necessary equipment and components are included n Plan for pre-wire and installation

Project Folders contain... n Project Information - contacts and other contractors n Contract of products and systems (no $) n Wire Chart n Sections for structured wiring, communications, audio, video, security, lighting, integration n Schematics, detailed drawings, product specifications n Programming, miscellaneous n Work Orders n Change Orders n Communications Log - memos/letters sent and received

Wire Chart n Prepare wire chart prior to site work n Organize wires but types or location n Identify unique wire for every item to be installed or pre-wired for n Include special or unique instructions n i.e. mounting, wire in multiple purpose box n Plan for the future - include extra wires n Leave space on wire chart for on-site use

On-Site Walk Through with Client n Understand location names used by homeowner n Identify exact locations in each room for all wiring/items n Mark locations - Write on studs or floor - staple up locator cards n Explore options, additions, deletions

Pre-Wire Verification n Label all wires n Use the check lists on wire chart n mark a check for each wired when completed n Verify each wire destination and mark a check n Take photo record n video or still photos n Test wire continuity n identify problems before they occur

Change Orders n Identify deviations from the Original Contract n Outline additions and deletions n Generate additional billings n Must be approved and signed off by customer n Maintain current status of project

Trim Out n Identify specific colors of components per each location in advance n Have all necessary items in stock n Be prepared - arrive with everything you need and extras n Scope entire project prior to starting n Clean up after yourself

Hook-up and Test n Whenever possible, assemble items in shop prior to on-site installation n Plan hook-up and document n Verify accessories needed n cables, power supplies, batteries n Shop test for a minimum of 48 hours of operation n Record serial numbers

Finish Installation n Verify shippers (list of items delivered on site) n Save owner manuals, warranty paperwork - return to office for Client Manual n Label systems on-site n speaker switcher, phone extensions n Document installation hook-up in job folder - As-builts n Test, test, test n every extension, piece of equipment n simulate typical homeowner actions n push it to the limit

Completion Documentation n As-Builts n Have written, accurate documentation of where equipment is located and how it is connected together n Client Manual n Give simple instructions for most common tasks n Include hook-up of components n Include owner manuals and warranty cards

Change Order n Track any additions and deletions n Field and design personnel should complete immediately n Get customer approval immediately

Shipper n Record accurately components and equipment delivered and/or installed on site n Record serial numbers n Record additional stock used

Client Concern n Gather as much information as possible n Identify the next step and follow through n Get back to client within 24 hours of next action step n Follow-up with client to confirm concern has been addressed and resolved

Time Card n Accurately record time spent on each project n At the end of each time break when changing tasks or going from one client to another n Complete daily

Labor Reconciliation n List estimated labor from quote and change orders n Enter all actual labor performed n Calculate often to confirm staying on track n Address immediately when over estimate

X-10 Hand Held Remote n Create custom hand-held labels for your client n Confirm names to use on the label with homeowner

Wire Tag n Write up tags prior to site visit n Organize by floor and then by room n At walk through staple at exact locations for mounting wires or boxes n For ceiling items, staple on door/ window frame
