Dry VS. Liquid Measuring Dry measuring cups are meant to be filled right up to the top and then leveled off with a straight edge of some sort. (Usually these are the ones all stuck together) Job: Measuring dry ingredients. Liquid measuring cups generally have a pour spout and are made to be filled to the numbers on the side of the cup (1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, 6 oz, etc.) rather than being filled right up to the top. (Usually these are the plastic or glass measuring cups) Job: Measuring liquid ingredients.

Measuring Spoons Job: measuring teaspoons and tablespoons. Tsp=TEASPOON Tbs=TABLESPOON Which is bigger?

Pastry Blender Job: Quickly cuts butter or shortening (fat) into dry ingredients (flour).

Wire Whisk A whisk is a cooking utensil used in food preparation and its JOB is to blend ingredients together into a smooth substance or to incorporate air into a mixture. This process known as whisking or whipping.

Peeler Job: to peel the skin off a fruit or vegetable with an easy push or pull motion. (Video)

Rolling Pin Job: Used to flatten any type of dough into a smooth sheet.

Can Opener Job: To use its ‘teeth’ to open a can easily and mess free. (Video)

Rubber Scrapper Job: The rubber allows the tool to bend according to the bowl or dish to scoop the remaining batter out.

Straight Edge Spatula The straight edge spatula has a blade which is flat, flexible, and straight with no curves or grooves. JOB: It is used for smoothing and leveling dry ingredients.

Custard Cups Job: Custard Cups make personal size portions of food. In this class, we will use custard cups to melt ingredients and separate ingredients as needed.

Cutting Board Job: To provide a hard, washable surface to cut food items on. *helps protect counter tops

Mixing Bowl Job: A bowl used for combining and mixing ingredients.

Colander A colander is a metal or plastic container with a perforated bottom. Job: for draining and straining foods. (Video)

Cheese Grater Job: used to shred large chunks of a food such as cheese or chocolate. (Video)

Zip Lock Bags This is not a real kitchen tool but they will be used often and it is good to know where they are kept. Job: Store/contain items of food for later use.

Dish Rag Job: Used to clean up messes or dry dishes. **Never use the same rag for both jobs.

Cookie Sheet Job: Used for baking/cooking items such as cookies, biscuits potatoes and other food items. (Video)

Sifter Job: To separate and thin out the parts of flour. (Video)
