Procedures and Rules

What you need:  You need pen/pencil and paper everyday in my class.  You need some kind of a binder to keep your science papers in.  If you need to borrow a pencil you will have to give collateral (trade).

Paper Headings: in the upper right- hand corner of your paper:  -Every paper you turn in will have the name, date, and period in the upper right - hand corner. The assignment title should be written at the top of the page.

ITEMS IN THE CLASSROOM  You may use the items on my desk, but you may not remove them from my desk.  Please recycle paper, cans, and bottles in the containers by the front door.  Behind my desk is the “ZONE OF TERROR”... Only the teacher is allowed in this area!

THREE STRIKES POLICY You get a strike by breaking the rules (tardiness, texting, gum, food, disturbance) The 3 strikes policy is you have 2 “warning strikes” for breaking the rules and then on the 3 rd strike I contact home. Every strike after the 3 rd one is an automatic detention. After your 3 rd detention the office gets involved.

TARDIES If you are not inside the classroom when the bell finishes ringing, you will be considered tardy. This means what it says! I will not argue with you about it! Unless you have a pass from another teacher, you will be marked tardy.

CELL PHONES Keep your cell phones OFF and in your backpacks If you are caught using your cell phone in class, your phone will go in “phone jail” for the rest of the class. Keep your headphones/ear buds in your backpacks as well.

GUM & FOOD There is no gum allowed in my class You may not eat food in my classroom or drink anything other than water (the 500 building has a problem with rodents so let’s not encourage them).

DISTURBANCES Being disruptive, especially during inappropriate times, will earn you a strike Defiance and breaking lab rules will earn you an automatic detention Misbehaving for a substitute will also earn you an automatic detention

 Journal:  There will always be a journal entry posted on the front whiteboard when you walk into class. You will have 3 minutes to complete the journal and will receive a stamp when finished.

“My Time”  When I need your attention, I will say, “my time”, I expect the class to quiet down and be ready for instruction.  I expect you to help each other out with this procedure. If you hear me say “my time,” alert your neighbors.

If you are finished with an assignment early:  -You can work on other assignments, but ask me first!

Restroom/Water Policy:  Always ask for permission before going to use the restroom. I only allow one student at a time out of class.  You get 5 bathroom passes per semester. Don’t use them and get 5 Extra Credit points each (25 total!!!) Don’t use them and get 5 Extra Credit points each (25 total!!!)  Bathroom pass is on the wall by the door.

MISSED ASSIGNMENTS  -If you are absent, YOU are responsible for missed assignments. They are written down in the absent folder at the front of the classroom.  Haiku always has the day’s activities posted.  If you miss a lab, you need to complete a current event.

CLASSWORK PACKETS KEEP EVERYTHING!!! KEEP EVERYTHING!!! Keep all assignments for your packet! Keep all assignments for your packet!
