Miss Quinn’s Owl Hoots December 4, 2015 Contact Info: (personal number) Cowan website: cowan.k12.in.us Next week’s Poem of the Week: My Gingerbread Man Congratulations to: Delaney, Abel, Keira, Reagan, Dominic, William, Ariana, and Jaxon for memorizing this week’s poem of the week! Word of the week: like Tuesday, December 8 –Christmas Program the high school gym Friday, December 18 th – Christmas Parties and class gift exchange December 19 th – January 4 th – Christmas Break! Have a great weekend! The "Crazy Christmas" Program is this Tuesday, December 8th at 6:30 PM in the high school main gym. The students have been working hard preparing for the program. If your child still has a color word ring, or a word ring with the words the, go, you, me, etc. these words must be learned by next Friday. We are nearing the end of 2 nd quarter report card testing. If your child does not know all 20 of these sight words by the end of the 2 nd quarter, I strongly encourage you to spend a lot of time learning them over Christmas break! Thank you to all of the families that came to watch our Thanksgiving play. We had a great turn out, and the children loved being able to show off all of their hard work! We hope you enjoyed it. A note will be coming home next week about our Christmas party. As a heads up, during our Christmas party we will be doing a gift exchange. Each child needs to bring in a $5 gift. Girls should bring a girl gift, and boys should bring a boy gift. If you signed up to bring Christmas treats for our Christmas party, or signed up to be a party helper, the reminder sheet for that will be going home next week as well. If you have any questions about either of these things, please do not hesitate to ask. The due date for the scholastic book order was extended to MONDAY – December 7 th ! Please make sure you get your orders in this weekend! Remember, if they include Christmas gifts, be sure to let me know! Starting this week, there will be an extra paper in your child’s book pocket each week. This paper is a fluency paper. Sometimes it will have sight words and phrases, and other times it will just be phrases. Please work with your child on this paper throughout the week. On Fridays, they will be tested on the paper. If they know all of the phrases, each phrase will be checked and the paper will be on the green side of their folder. If there are phrases they still don’t know, the phrases will be circled and the paper will stay on the red side until they know them. I am looking for a parent volunteer or two that can come in sometime next week to help us with our Christmas presents. If you are interested in helping children make their ornaments, please send me a note with the days and times you are available. I will send you a note back to confirm! This week, we studied base 10 blocks in math. Next week we start addition! Next week we will only be working on addition to 5. The following week we will start addition to 10. When we return from Christmas break, we will be spending several weeks on addition. Next week in reading, we will be covering the different versions of the Gingerbread Man. This is one of my favorite weeks in kindergarten! Next week is also our BSU college teacher, Miss Whitehead’s, last week. Wednesday will be her final day in our classroom. If your child would like to make her a card, that would be great! They can earn a bonus golden strip if they do so! Please remember that we go outside as long as the temperature is above 25 degrees with wind chill. Please make sure you are dressing your child appropriately to play outside- including hats, coats, and gloves. If your child does not know how to zip their coat, please work on this at home! We waste lots of valuable recess time zipping coats. Thanks!
