School Emergency Plan Overview Minooka Community High School District #111

Fire / Evacuation Plan Give students instructions on proper exit to be used. Retrieve you Red emergency folder. Be sure to close any windows, turn off lights, make sure all students have exited the room, and then shut the door. Proceed to the specific area indicated on your classroom evacuation map.

Accompany your class and supervise their behavior during the entire evacuation process. Once your class is at their designated spot, please take attendance, and use your Red / Green card to indicate if any student is missing (Red) or if all students are present (Green). Remain outside until the “all clear” announcement is made.

Tornado Warning Plan When alarm sounds, teachers should retrieve their Red emergency folder and accompany their students to the assigned shelter area designated by the classroom map. Have students sit against the lockers or walls, do not sit in front of windows or doors. Students should remain quiet and listen for further instructions over the intercom.

Lockdown All Students This statement means that we are in control. Close and lock classroom door. You may receive multiple s regarding this announcement. Explain to students that we know about the situation and keep them calm. Do not allow students to leave the classroom.

Continue with your lesson. The only time to release students is when an announcement is made. Even if bells ring, do not dismiss students. This could result in a much longer time block. Lockdown All Students

Secure All Students This statement means that we have not completed an assessment of a serious situation. This announcement takes precedence over a fire alarm. You will receive multiple s regarding this announcement.

Go to the door and take a quick scan of the hallway. Pull in any students that are in the near vicinity of your door. Close and lock the classroom door and any open windows. Turn off light in the classroom. Have all students move to the corner of the room on which the door is located. Explain to students that this is a serious situation and that they need to remain calm and quiet. Use Red and Green card to communicate with emergency responders.

If everyone in the classroom is accounted for and not harmed, slide the Green card under the door. Also place a Green card in an exterior window or external door. If emergency assistance is needed in the classroom, slide the Red card under the door to indicate that emergency assistance is needed. Also place a Red card in an exterior window or external door. Law enforcement will enter classrooms with Red cards. If no card is displayed, law enforcement will assume that there is a problem in the room and enter.

Do not open the door for anyone. Evacuation will take place when law enforcement officials enter the room.
