The Shores Mission Statement To provide a safe, nurturing and loving environment for our clients to heal from addiction. We will treat all phases of the disease using the most current medical, physiological, psychological holistic and spiritual approaches available to a team of licensed and board certified professionals.

The Shores Philosophy Is based upon the theory that addiction to alcohol and other substances is a multi-fold disease: physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological. We believe that the recovery of every aspect of the affected persons’ lives, as well as the lives of their loved ones. We also realize that healing can be a very difficult and painful process-much the same as recovery from any other illness.

What is Selfishness YOU Causing further damage to oneself, others and relationships Playing the Blame Game Not making changes in old patterns Not avoiding people, places, and things that are unhealthy Doing for others and not yourself YOUR LOVED ONE It’s continuing in their addiction

Why is Your Self Care Important During our loved one’s addiction we become estranged from healthy ways, and let fear and uncertainty in We suffered from loneliness, guilt, resentment, stress, lack of sleep, and/or other health problems We felt responsible for holding it all together and we may have felt victimized, angry and full of blame Our health will be restored when you learn to take care of yourself

How to Care for Yourself Take responsibility for making yourself happy Make time for yourself and do things that bring you pleasure and enjoyment Community service where you have no expectations of getting anything in return Set long term goals Accept the imperfections you have and those of others Don’t take things personally

Realize that it doesn’t matter what others think of you and what you are doing Pay attention to your instincts and feelings Take a long-hot bath, walk in nature, pray, meditate, listen to the ocean, pet a dog Join mutual help groups Stay away from drama and negativity as much as possible Let go of what you cannot control

Learn how to communicate what you need Learn to communicate what you want to say Learn how to set limits Learn how to take action LET IT GO!
