Year 7 Homework Support Booklet The home learning projects is your Food Technology homework. These are tasks that will use researched information, as well as information you have studied in class. This booklet will enable you to become an independent enquirer. It will improve and extend your knowledge, understanding and skills across the subjects. If you are having difficulties it is your responsibility to ask your class teacher help and support.

HOMEWORK 1 Design and make a poster. Chose one safety rule – this can be on food safety or personal health and safety. (see the example on the next slide) 1 sheet of A4 paper Done by hand or on the computer Must be stuck into your exercise book if printed. Step 2 – I can use simple images to create a design Step 3 – I am able to explain my image Step 4 – I can record and annotate my design to show the reader what the poster tells you. This can be done by saying what the strengths and weaknesses are of the poster.

EXAMPLES OF POSTERS

HOMEWORK 2 Who is your favourite chef? Write a profile for them. Include their background, work and ethos. Remember the information must be your own and nothing copied and pasted. The work should be at least 400 words in length and include a picture of your chosen chef. Step 2 – I can use a simple image to create my chef profile and write a few sentences to explain who they are. Step 3 – I am able to explain my image by giving some background information of who they are and their current work background. Step 4 – I can use different images to create my profile. I can also record their background and what I like and dislike about them. I can also link back to some of their recipes.

HOMEWORK 3 For one of the products you have made in class, develop a picture storyboard with annotation to show the step-by-step method. Step 2 – I have used simplistic pictures to make my story board Step 3 – I have used a range of pictures to describe my storyboard and have added a description for each step Step 4 – I can use different images to create my storyboard. I have added a description for each step and suggested ways it could be modified to make it healthier, considering the five main nutrients.

1. Gas 5, 190°c, mins. 2. Weigh 250g plain flour into a bowl. 3. Sieve to add air into the mixture. 4. Weigh 125g margarine and chop into pieces. 5. Using your fingertips rub the flour into the pastry. 6. Add enough cold water to bind the ingredients together. 7. Roll pastry in one direction and shape. 8. Line the flan dish without stretching the pastry. Story board for making Quiche EXAMPLE

HOMEWORK 4 Step 3 – I have chosen one of the logo. I have used different food images to represent my findings with a simple description. Step 4 – I have also chosen two of the logos. I have used a range of ideas to inform the reader of my findings by looking into what the logo represents and how it is used in the food industry. Also I have included examples of food products. Step 5 – I have chosen three of the logos above to research in my factsheet. I have added images for each one and written a description of what they mean / stand for. I have included examples of food products. I have also looked at the advantages and disadvantages of each. Choose one or more of the environmental issues below and produce a factsheet to inform the reader of what it means and how it is associated with the food industry. Eat foods in season
