What Can R10 & its Sections Do? l Identify & groom future leaders l Select those who have good ideas, know how to sell those ideas; and are willing to volunteer, work, devote the necessary time l Establish N&A Comm. for IEEE-wide positions l The process will take time. On the technical side, conference committees are a good place to start.

Marketing at Conferences A Unique Opportunity l >500 IEEE-sponsored conferences in 2006 l 200K participants; >50% were non-members. l Unique marketing opportunity  Recruit new members  Product sales & licensing (IEL, Enterprise…)  Publicize related conferences, standards, IEEE.tv  Recruit volunteers  Enhance IEEE’s image; “IEEE is awesome!”  Set up an exhibit booth. IEEE staff can help you.

Sales Rebates to Sections FOM.9 - SALES REBATES TO ORGANIZATIONAL UNITS “Rebates of 20% of the initial price and 15% of the renewal price shall be credited to organizational units that are the procuring cause of the new or renewal license of IEEE Enterprise, the IEEE Electronic Library (IEL), All Society Periodical Package (ASPP), and Prepaid Order Plan (POP). When an organizational unit and IEEE staff are jointly the procuring cause of a new license, 14% of the initial price shall be credited to the organizational unit and a 6% commission shall be paid to staff.”

Conferences Database l URL: l Can be searched by geography, as well as technical keywords l Interested Sections can search database for conferences near them l Every conference has a primary point of contact listed for follow-up, with address information

Proposals may be submitted anytime during the year. Regular initiative: $100K minimum. Seed Grant program - $25K maximum, with rapid decision  Proposal to BoD in June Improved New Initiative Process

Marketing Advice for IEEE-sponsored Conferences l Request help from IEEE staff: flags, banners, brochures, l Establish an IEEE Information Center booth/desk l Place IEEE banners and posters throughout the conference area l Include IEEE logo on all directional signage l Display floor-standing and/or tabletop IEEE flags l Use an IEEE podium drape l Have an IEEE screen saver run on projection PCs and internet café PCs during idle periods l Give away IEEE-branded candy l Set up a few computer or DVD video displays showcasing IEEE advances, e.g., recent clips from IEEE.tv
