IEEE Fellow status is granted to a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE’s designated fields of interest. The honor is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors. QUALIFICATIONS FOR IEEE FELLOW GRADE

Fellow Class Nominations Accepted 2008 March 2, 2006 – March 1, 2007 2009 March 2, 2007 – March 1, 2008 2010 March 2, 2008 – March 1, 2009 FELLOW CYCLE

NOMINEE: Must be an IEEE Senior Member in good standing and he/she must have completed five years of service in any grade of membership. Note: IEEE affiliate membership, does not apply. The nominee cannot be a member of the IEEE Board of Directors, the IEEE Fellow Committee, IEEE Technical Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee Chair, or a member of IEEE Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committees reviewing the nomination. REQUIREMENTS FOR IEEE FELLOW GRADE

NOMINATOR: Any person, including non- members, are eligible to serve as a nominator with the following exceptions: members of the IEEE Board of Directors, members of the IEEE Fellow Committee, IEEE Technical Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee Chairs, members of IEEE Technical Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee reviewing the nomination, or IEEE Staff. REQUIREMENTS FOR IEEE FELLOW GRADE

THE IEEE FELLOW PROCESS Responsibilities of a Nominator: Submit the IEEE Fellow Grade Nomination Form by 01 March. Solicitation of at least five, but no more than eight, references who are capable of assessing the nominee’s contributions. Solicitation of Endorsements (optional) Identification of an IEEE Technical Society/Council to evaluate the nomination.

THE IEEE FELLOW PROCESS ELIGIBILITY OF A REFERENCE A Reference must be an IEEE Fellow in good standing. The following individuals are ineligible to serve as IEEE Fellow References: members of the IEEE Board of Directors, members of the Fellow Committee, members of the IEEE Technical Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee reviewing the nomination or IEEE Staff. In addition, a nominator may not serve as a reference for a nomination he/she is submitting. Exception: References will be accepted if a reference is an IEEE Senior Member in good standing and the nominee they are serving as a reference for resides in Region 9.

THE IEEE FELLOW PROCESS ELIGIBILITY OF AN ENDORSEMENT Any person, including non-members, may be an Endorsement. The following individuals are ineligible to serve as Endorsements: members of the IEEE Board of Directors, members of the Fellow Committee, members of the IEEE Technical Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee reviewing the nomination or IEEE Staff. In addition, a nominator may not serve as an endorser for a nomination he/she is submitting.

THE IEEE FELLOW PROCESS Responsibilities of an IEEE Society/Council Fellow Evaluating Committee Chair: Organize and chair a committee of experts. Minimum number of five members should review each nomination. Submit committee member names by 31 March. Ensure committee members understand IEEE’s Conflict of Interest Policy. Ensure committee members understand IEEE Code of Ethics. Ensure committee members understand Guidelines Evaluate nominees referred by the nominator. Review citation. Submit scores by 15 June.

THE IEEE FELLOW PROCESS Responsibilities of IEEE Fellow Committee Member: Evaluate approximately 100 nominations. Score nominees based on the following criteria: -Individual Contributions as Application Engineer/Practitioner, Educator, Research Engineer/Scientist, or Technical Leader. - Evaluation by the IEEE Society Council - References and Endorsements. - Professional Activities. - Total years in the profession. Submit scores by 1 September

THE FELLOW PROCESS Application Engineer/Practitioner – Responsible for product development, advancement in system, application or operation, project management or construction activity, process development, manufacturing innovation, codes or standards development, or other application of technology Educator – Responsible to advance electrical engineering and scientific technology through education by the developing curricula and/or courses that are innovative and unique Research Engineer/Scientist – Responsible for inventions, discoveries or advances in the state of the art technological advances Technical Leader – Responsible for a managerial, team, or company- wide effort using technical innovation, and resulting in outstanding performance, economic enhancements, or other advantages to benefit society Individual Contributions

THE IEEE FELLOW PROCESS Final Review IEEE Fellow Committee normally meets in late September or early October. Reviews scores and ranks proposed Fellow nominations. Prepares recommended citations. Recommends a list of proposed Fellow nominees to the IEEE Board of Directors.
