No 5 27th November 2009 Dear Parents/ Carers The end of term is fast approaching and there is still so much to do and so much going on! This weekend the children in Year 6 are off to Dol y’Moch and we all hope they have a great time. One of the staff from the centre came to talk to the children and he said that he was very impressed with the children and he was really looking forward to working with them. Well done to the children and bon Voyage! Cars on Site I have been alerted to the fact that cars have been coming onto the site again both before and after school I t appears that some parents have forgotten that cars are not allowed on site. I have spoken to individual parents and I am sure that they will support us in parking off site. This is for the safety of all our children and parents. Please do not bring your cars onto the site as it is an accident waiting to happen. The focus has been on healthy eating and exercise. All of the children enjoyed the sessions and each received a PE bag, water bottle and step counter for taking part. The One Body One Life team will be working with Y1 next term. Disability Scheme Sue Franklin one of our parent governors is up dating our Disability scheme. She would like to involve people in our school community who have a disability of some sort. It is not only a physical difficulty it could be someone who has dyslexia for instance. If you could give Sue some time she would be really grateful. If you are interested please let us at school know and we can then get Sue to contact you. Your experiences and opinions would be really valuable. There wouldn’t be loads of work to do!

Yours sincerely Mrs N A Starritt Head Teacher Attendance As with all things in Education we have been set targets for attendance and currently we are well below our target figure. Regular attendance is very important so that the children are able to achieve their potential. It is particularly difficult for children to make up their work if they miss two weeks for a holiday. This means that a whole set of objectives will have been missed out and there will be big gaps in the child’s learning. Please try and ensure that your child only misses school when absolutely necessary. Clearly we do not want ill children in school as this spreads germs. However we do have children with attendance figures as low as sixty percent and many of the absent days are on Monday or Friday. Letters are going to be sent to parents of children whose attendance is below 90%.We will be monitoring all absences below ninety five percent and either telephoning or visiting parents to try and support the better attendance of their child. If you have difficulties getting children to school through illness of siblings for example please let us know so that we can try and help. To encourage good attendance there will be certificates at the end of the term for children who have100% attendance and also an extra break time and a small treat! At the end of the school year there will also be prizes for 100% attendance where all the children who achieve this will be taken on a trip with Mrs. Holland and our cluster schools. Thank you to all the children and parents of those children whose attendance is good we appreciate your efforts! Primary Admissions The closing date for Primary places is 15th January Please make sure you get your application in, to ensure your first choice of school, citywide there is a shortage of places and unless you apply by the deadline, you may not get the school you would like. You can apply online at Christmas Concerts We will shortly be sending letters home regarding the Christmas concert that takes place on Wednesday 9 th December. We will be issuing each family with two tickets for each performance. Unfortunately, due to Fire Regulations we are not able to allocate more tickets than this. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. Christmas Shoppers Do you need to do some late night shopping but don't want to take the children? Abby Oaks are available to help……We are allocating extra spaces to make this possible for you. Charges will apply. Please call Louise on (Play Leader) Fun for Fathers Thank you to all the Dads, Grandads', Uncles and big brothers who supported our Fun for Fathers evening. I hope you all have seen the photos on the outside display board. Holly from Reception class won the Gruffalo CD. Look out for the next event in the spring. Mrs Holland Swimming The last swimming session of this term is on Friday 11th December. We are really pleased with the progress that the children are making, especially the non swimmers. Keep up the good work Years three and four! Secret Present Room Don’t forget the Secret Present Room starts on Thursday 3rd December until Tuesday 8th December. It is an ideal opportunity for the children to select family presents and probably spend your money! Children In Need Thank you for your support this year and we raised a fantastic £ for this worthy cause.
