Expectations in Year 1 and 2 Homework Both year bands give homework out on Friday to return on the following Wednesday.  Reading every night and noted in the reading log.  Maths weekly  Literacy weekly – could be phonics based, spellings or writing. Punctuality for start of school  Pupils should be lining up at 8.48am each morning.  There is little space at the lines – please encourage your child to line up independently.

Expectations in Year 1 and 2 Behaviour  We operate a zone system to indicate levels of expected behaviour. All pupils start each term in super zone. We talk to the children not in terms of naughty behaviour but of poor choices and how to make better ones!  We expect good manners of all our pupils and the ability to take responsibility for their own actions.  We celebrate kindness, friendship and appropriate behaviour in a variety of ways including; sharing achievements with other teachers, being Star of the Week, getting ‘Dojo’points, stickers and badges, certificates etc.  We hope to have your support in this aspect of school life – if you have any concerns – please come and talk to us.

Expectations in Year 1 and 2 P.E Kits  Very important part of our curriculum – please ensure your child has a P.E kit that fits and is clearly marked as theirs!  They stay in our classrooms to avoid getting lost!  Kits will go home at the end of each term for a wash – and please check their pumps still fit!  Worth mentioning school uniform – please ensure their name is clearly marked on the label in permanent marker – we have a huge amount of unnamed lost property at the end of each term!

Expectations in Year 1 and 2 Out of School Learning  Some learning experiences are simply better out of class!  We VERY carefully cost our trips – we are aware that in this economic climate spare money is difficult to find for many families.  We ensure that any trip letters go out as early as possible to enable parents can pay.  We are also very grateful for parent helpers on our trips.

Expectations in Year 1 and 2 Open Door Policy  We operate an open door policy – you don’t have to wait until a parent’s evening to voice a concern! Special Educational Needs  If you have concerns – please speak to your teacher or have a word with Miss Short who is the school co-ordinator for special needs.

Expectations in Year 1 and 2 Y2 SATS Mentioned – not for you to worry – but to keep your diaries free from holidays!
