Welcome to 4 th Grade! Parent Orientation Night

. Welcome! We are so glad you are here! For the next few minutes the 4 th Grade Team would like to give you a brief overview of what to expect this year. Each of us are planning to hang around afterwards if you have any particular questions for us individually.

Meet the Team Emily Jacobs- all subjects Kathilu Mote- ELA and Social Studies David Spatz- Math and Science Christa Sullivan- ELA and Social Studies Lacy Tallman- Math and Science

4 th Grade Goals To give your child the academic and social skills needed to progress to 5th grade and thrive in an ever changing society Accept RESPONSIBILITY for one’s own actions Become Life-Long Learners.

Expectations We have high expectations. They are challenging but reasonable. 4 th grade is a significant academic jump from 3 rd grade. Your child may struggle at times this year, and that is normal. Communication between parent and teacher is critically important.

School and Classroom Rules BE RESPECTFUL BE RESPONSIBLE BE SAFE

Be Responsible Have all materials ready for class each day. Complete homework and have it ready for class when it’s due. Get agenda signed daily. Give notes and papers to parents when they are sent home. Bring back notes/papers when they are to be returned. Keep desk, floor, & cubby area clean and organized.

Communicating with Parents How will we involve parents? Websites – teacher info, expectations, assignments Agendas – filled out and signed daily by teacher w/ HW and important info Notes, s, phone calls, texts via Remind Weekly newsletter- paper, , website Room parent- make copies, prepare activities for instruction, donations Other– field trips, Game Nights, etc.

Communicating with Parents Via Remind Please text this number  In the message box, type according to teacher: Tallman Sullivan Jacobs Mote Spatz

Agendas Please Check & Sign Agendas Daily! Students should always have their agendas filled out. Students are responsible for: ROAR Chart Materials (books, papers, etc.) Agenda (getting signatures & recording their assignments) Delivering anything sent home to parents Giving notes to teachers from parents Completing/Turning in their assigned and missed work

Behavior Marks OT = off-task behaviors; inattention; school/classroom rule broken T = loud, inappropriate or disruptive talking DP = disrespectful to other people or oneself DT = disrespect to things; school or personal property R = responsibility for class supplies; books; AGENDA H = homework or class work not completed AND brought to class G = gum L = late to class, unexcused

Rewards/Consequences Teachers may choose from the following: Roar Celebration Extra Privileges Treats Extra Computer Time Individual Teacher Choice Marks Loss of Roar Party by not earning stamps on their grid Loss of privileges Removed to another teacher’s classroom Conference 6 marks in a week – referral to office Extreme behavior – straight to office

Absences Need a parent or doctor note to excuse absences (not written in agenda). After 10, only a doctor’s note is accepted to receive an excused absence. Have 5 school days to make up work. Any medicine must be brought to the office by a parent and signed in (including cough drops, Tylenol, etc.). A Tardy will be given for coming to school late or picked up early.

Lunch/Snacks Money will be turned in at the cafeteria by students in a sealed and marked envelope No sodas, tea, energy drink, etc. are allowed. Snacks must be healthy: no candy. Snack Cart starts after Labor Day. $0.50 each/ Limit 2 Only water to drink in a spill proof bottle allowed in classroom.

Lunch with Your Child In order for students to establish a routine, we do not open up the cafeteria to guests until after Labor Day. Only the child of the parent visiting may eat lunch with the parent. Seating is limited due to the amount of students eating, and one table is reserved for students with peanut allergies.

Visiting School and Picking Up Kiddos Early All parents must enter through the front office and sign in with picture I.D. before entering any other part of the school or playground. No child may be checked out after 2:15. Pick them up in car rider line. PLEASE send a note for any alternate way home. Schedule meetings at least 2 days in advance.

Extra Practice Extra Practice is an essential part of learning. It helps to reinforce concepts. As such, late extra practice will have a negative effect on grades. Also, kiddos will receive a mark and lose all or some of recess time. *Includes weekly practice- math spiral review, cursive, etc.*

Parent/Teacher Partnership In one year, a child spend 7,800 hours at home and 900 hours at school. We are teachers, and you are parents. We both love our jobs, and we are good at them. But, when we work TOGETHER, you will see your kids flourish in both environments!

Questions?? Thank you so much for coming!
