4. Communication and Important Notes
In fourth grade, homework will be assigned during the week.
Tests will be announced ahead of time. Teachers will communicate via Remind, planner, and/or newsletters. It is your child’s responsibility to record the dates. Study sheets, notes, and vocabulary words will be given in plenty of time for the children to study them. Study Guides will be given regularly in fourth grade. Please make sure you review this information with your child.

5. Parents can monitor their child’s progress by the following:
Signed Papers will come home Wednesdays (except for holidays & special weeks).
Progress Reports (2/semester), 1 report card per semester, Infinite Campus, and conferences.
Parents please sign the coversheet and return ALL of the graded papers to school.

6. Grading Policy for 4th grade
We use A, B, C and F as follows: A’s= B’s = C’s = 70 – 79 F’s = 69 and below Fourth grade uses only classroom grades to determine pass/fail. Milestone is not used and not retested in the Spring.

7. Missing Assignments
Your child will be required to complete missing or incomplete assignments during recess or exploratory as necessary.
Teachers have discretion for re-taking assignments.

8. Assessments
MAP: will be given at least 3 times a year; fall, winter, spring. It shows us how your child is progressing and is correlated to the GA Milestones.
Reading Inventories: are used to determine your child’s reading level.
GMAS: this is GA Milestone. It is taken once in 4th grade over ELA and Math in the Spring.

9. Accelerated Reader (AR)
Students will be allowed to take at least 1 AR test a week.
In the Fourth Grade, students have the opportunity to visit the library once a week. Please encourage your child to get appropriate books that interest them.
They may bring their books home to read with you but please only help them when needed.
AR is an excellent opportunity for the children to use the various comprehension strategies they are learning at school.
Our AR program is a web-based, which means you can visit the website and see if books from home are AR. Tests may not be taken at home.

10. Breakfast and Lunch
Your child needs to be here by 7:35 if he or she wants to eat breakfast. According to the Student Handbook:
Breakfast- 7:15- 7:45AM
(Car riders wishing to eat breakfast should report to the cafeteria by 7:35AM.) 
First Bell- 7:50AM
Tardy Bell- 7:55AM (Students must be in class when the bell rings.)
Please no carbonated drinks (bottle or can).
Please do not send meals
that have to be heated in the microwave.
Please do not send fast food items to school.

11. Snacks
Your child may bring a snack to school each day. He/she may also bring a bottle of water to drink at recess and during snack time. Please do not send candy or sodas.
Gum is not allowed to be brought.
Sunflower seeds are not a sufficient snack.

Parents are welcomed to volunteer at the school. They must complete a volunteer training class and a background check. Shelley Dunlap is in charge of this program.

13. Help Your Child’s Classroom
Donations of Kleenex/tissue and hand sanitizer are always needed as well as greatly appreciated. You wouldn’t believe how much we use once winter rolls around!
Classroom incidental fees are used throughout to school year for special projects and supplies as needed.
It is a one time donation of $10.00 and can be paid at any time during the school year. Please keep in mind this money will only be used for the classroom in which the child is located. It is not used in other classrooms.

14. How can I help my child have a successful year in Fourth Grade?
Be positive and encouraging about your child’s experiences at school.
Reading with your child DAILY is one of the most important things you can do!
Check planners daily. Study the guides daily.
Volunteer at the school whenever you can. This lets your child know that you value their education and they love seeing you at school.
Work together with your child’s teachers to establish a supportive relationship in order to help your child be successful in school.
Attend parent/teacher conferences.
