twitter.com/DOTLebanon facebook.com/DOTLebanon‎ A presentation about social media with emphasis on facebook

"Social media essentially is a category of online media where people are talking, participating, sharing, networking, and bookmarking online.“ There is a wide variety of social media, ranging from social sharing sites such as YouTube and Flickr through social networks such as LinkedIn and Facebook. In my opinion, social media has shot to the forefront of people's attention because it's fun. Thanks to social media, it's easy to share your ideas, photos, videos, likes and dislikes, with the world at large - and find out what they think of them. You can find friends, business contacts and become part of a community or a bunch of different communities. Social media gives you what TV never could - a chance to be engaged and engage others. What is a facebook group? Facebook groups are the place for small group communication and for people to share their common interests and express their opinion. Groups allow people to come together around a common cause, issue or activity to organize, express objectives, discuss issues, post photos and share related content. When you create a group, you can decide whether to make it publicly available for anyone to join, require administrator approval for members to join or keep it private and by invitation only. Like with Pages, new posts by a group are included in the News Feeds of its members and members can interact and share with one another from the group. twitter.com/DOTLebanon facebook.com/DOTLebanon‎

How can a facebook group help teachers and students? Schedule events for the entire class. Use message utility in Facebook to message your students about unexpected absences, rescheduling of exams...etc. Share multimedia content like videos, photos, clips and more with your entire class. Post class notes for students to review in case they were absent Try to involve students who are normally shy in the classroom Facilitate classroom connections through letting students know each other more. This is particularly helpful in large classes. Use Facebook to send reminders, announcements, upcoming due dates or any other classroom news. Sharing online content with students such as interesting websites, blogs, wikis, and more. Add educational applications to your Facebook group. Encourage students to post content of their own such as videos, images, news stories and other media that relate back to their lessons. twitter.com/DOTLebanon facebook.com/DOTLebanon‎
