GUIDE TO SUMMER COLLEGE PROGRAMS “Post-Secondary Enrollment Options” allows qualifying students to take college coursework during the summer. KSU-Main U of Akron Cleve. St Cuyahoga Community College (eastern campus) KSU Geauga Lakeland CC Hiram CWRU BW

The Post-Secondary Enrollment Program (PSEO) was enacted by Ohio Legislature in 1989, with the purpose of providing college level courses for the high school student.. Potential concerns include the increased student-responsibility for learning, increased financial obligations for tuition, materials and transportation, and social discomfort There is no guarantee that the college course curriculum will match the curriculum of the course offered at SHS which prepares the student for the next level. Students taking college coursework in the summer are responsible for all tuition, books, fees, and transportation. Solon High School will grant credit for coursework, and reserves the right to require a placement test before the student is placed in the next level course at the high school to ensure that the student is prepared for that placement. The benefits of PSEO include expanded curriculum for students, opportunities for in-depth study, the experience of college-level work, and the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school.

Student applies to the college as Option A of the Post- Secondary Enrollment Option Program, which indicates that the parent/student is responsible for payment of all tuition, books and fees. 1. The summer program open registration begins April 6th and ends on June11th. 2. The parent/student contacts the college for an application & course catalog. 3. No college application for the summer program will be processed by Solon High School after June 11th. STEP ONE

The student may be required by the college to take placement tests before enrolling. STEP TWO The SHS Counselor will provide the transcript and sign the college forms approving coursework. Student and parent review and sign the Solon High School “Intent to Participate” form, and complete the college application with the counselor. Student/parent will return completed material in a sealed envelope to the college.

Solon High School reserves the right to require a placement test before allowing the student to proceed to the next level course at the high school. STEP THREE Upon completion of the summer coursework, the student makes an appointment to meet with his/her SHS counselor to review the transcript/credit information and change high school schedule if needed for that academic year. The student will earn college credit AND high school credit upon successful completion of the course.

This form shows the maximum college credit hours for which the student can enroll for the summer. The relationship between college credit and Carnegie unit is computed according to the following tables: COLLEGE SEMESTER HOUR CREDIT HIGH SCHOOL CARNEGIE CREDIT
