2 WHAT IS THE POST–SECONDARY PROGRAM OPTIONS PROGRAM? An educational program provided by Senate Bill 140An educational program provided by Senate Bill 140 PSEO permits appropriately qualified students in grades 9 through 12 to enroll in a public university, college or accredited technical school (full or part time)PSEO permits appropriately qualified students in grades 9 through 12 to enroll in a public university, college or accredited technical school (full or part time) PSEO allows students to earn college and high school graduation credits through successful completion of college courses.PSEO allows students to earn college and high school graduation credits through successful completion of college courses.

3 WHO IS ELGIBLE FOR THE PSEO PROGRAM? 4 WHAT DOES PSEO ENROLLMENT COST? There are 2 types of enrollment optionsThere are 2 types of enrollment options OPTION AOPTION A –Permits students to enroll in college courses for college credit ONLY. Students are required to pay ALL costs including tuition, books, materials and fees. OPTION BOPTION B –Permits students to enroll in college courses for BOTH college and high school credit. Students are NOT required to pay any costs including tuition, books, materials and fees.

5 WHAT ARE SOME PSEO PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS ? Students must perform at the same level as the institution’s regular studentsStudents must perform at the same level as the institution’s regular students College courses supplement and/or enrich educational opportunities for studentsCollege courses supplement and/or enrich educational opportunities for students School Districts will recover costs when a student fails to complete a college course and/or fails a courseSchool Districts will recover costs when a student fails to complete a college course and/or fails a course

6 WHAT COURSES CAN BE TAKEN? Courses required for high school graduation that are approved by the District before the student enrolls at the institution.Courses required for high school graduation that are approved by the District before the student enrolls at the institution. Grades for all courses taken will be incorporated into the student’s grade point average (GPA).

7 HOW ARE CREDITS AWARDED FOR OPTION B? 8 WHAT ARE SOME OF THE POSSIBLE... ADVANTAGES ADVANTAGES Receive dual credit-high school and collegeReceive dual credit-high school and college Save on the cost of a college educationSave on the cost of a college education Have access to a greater variety of coursesHave access to a greater variety of courses Learn to increase study and class preparation/ management timeLearn to increase study and class preparation/ management time Pursue courses in a more in- depth mannerPursue courses in a more in- depth manner DISADVANTAGES Have to pass more than one college course in order to receive the unit of credit at the high school level Compete against older, more mature students Learn in large “lecture” classes; a more impersonal environment Jeopardize GPA if grades are unsatisfactory College course grades are not ‘weighted’ Experience financial burden if a class is failed or dropped

9 WHAT IF A STUDENT FAILS OR DROPS A COURSE? If the student is taking a course for college credit ONLY and drops or fails the course, they will not receive credit. (Option A) If the student is enrolled in a course for high school credit the financial obligation becomes that of the parent(s) and/or of the student. 10 WHAT ABOUT TRANSPORTATION?
