4 Dual Enrollment Defined…
…dual enrollment (is a) program for students in grades who qualify to participate. Students may enroll on a part-time or full-time basis as a Dual Enrollment student and take college courses. Students will receive high school and college credit simultaneously when attending and passing approved college classes. Partnerships.aspx

5 What does it Cost? Tuition and books paid for by the Georgia Department of Education Fees such as lab (science courses) and/or equipment fees (technical programs) may be parent/student responsibility

Academic or Elective Credit – aligned to high school credits Approved college class at participating institution – online or on college campus THINC partnership w/WGTC Technical College Certificates Base campus academic courses

7 THINC Academy Connection
Pathways offered at THINC are aligned to WGTC Certificate & Degree Programs WGTC & THINC - shared physical space – easy access Dual Enrollment Guidance & Support – offered between THINC & base school A THINC administrator is available to assist with funding applications, scheduling, and transcripts Frequent communication occurs between students, their counselors and THINC administrator

9 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Grades 9-12 are eligible MUST meet college criteria Make required score on SAT, ACT, ACCUPLACER, or required test Apply for Admission as a College Student Student and parent/guardian MUST read and sign the MOWR Agreement Complete the MOWR Funding Application ( each semester he/she participates in MOWR See your high school guidance counselor for assistance

12 Negative Considerations
Not all students are “READY” Poor grades are permanent to both transcripts Withdrawing from a course (after the college drop/add date) may result in an “F” on the high school transcript Poor grades will negatively affect graduation credits and HOPE scholarship consideration Highly competitive colleges say they want to see that a student has taken the highest rigor of coursework offered at the high school. Before dual enrolling, check with the college you are interested in attending.

Research the educational requirements for your career of interest WHAT ARE THE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CAREER FIELD? Determine the post-secondary requirements certificate(s), 2-year degree, 4-year degree, advanced degree WHAT EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION OFFERS THE EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CAREER FIELD? HOW WILL YOU GET THERE? Develop an ACADEMIC PLAN Identify core academic and/or technical classes offered in Dual Enrollment that fit your CAREER GOAL See your high school guidance counselor for assistance

14 How to Register? Meet with counselor (advisement) to discuss interest in Dual Enrollment Register for the required entrance exam (ACCUPLACER, ACT, SAT, other) Apply for admission at the post secondary institution Complete the Dual Enrollment agreement and checklist Determine course(s) aligned to your academic plan Register for the selected courses (through the college) See your high school guidance counselor for assistance
