Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 CityShare

Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 CityShare- Introduction CityShare launched on July 20! The backend is now an N-tiered platform. The information architecture and interface have been made to be more intuitive. Content has been made useful and integrates with NYC.gov sites. Employee Search and Events Calendar are the inaugural applications. Phase II-- Disaster recovery implementation. Completion September/October.

Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 CityShare- Infrastructure New platform is a UNIX environment featuring: –Vignette Application Portal (VAP) –Vignette Application Builder (VAB) –Interwoven (IW) Content Management System. Agencies will be able to deploy subportals/intranets using VAP and IW. Supports Java applications. Future–Future– –Web services for connecting to other types of applications. –Seamless integration of global and agency content managed through IW templates and user authentication. Following Phase II Disaster Recovery implementation.

Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 CityShare Demonstration Best viewed at 1024x768 resolution. 800x600 still accommodated. Are you still seeing the old CityShare? Ctrl-F5 to clear cache. Can’t access content on NYC.gov? Contact agency MIS to obtain NYC.gov access for “intranet only” users. FutureFuture –CityShare will be accessible through the Internet via the new DoITT VPN application. –Personalization –Content mingling of global and agency sub portal content will be dependent on registry and personalization.

Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 CityShare’s Home Page Features Area— will change frequently Main Feature Rotating City Features Global Navigation & Applications Agency Ownership

Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 Simple Employee Search ties into LDAP and displays the same data within CityShare. More advanced searches can be conducted in the Citywide Employee Contact Directory at Advanced Search in the Employee Search module links to the Citywide Employee Contact Directory. Employee Search & LDAP

Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 Employee Search & LDAP Advanced filtering options. address lookups can now reference ldap.nycnet. LDAP participating agencies need to keep data clean and sensitive accounts hidden. Batch upload agencies should automate directory exports and upload this on a weekly basis. Long-term strategy is to have an enterprise wide identity management solution. As part of this strategy, we encourage every agency to put every employee’s PMS ID and active code into the agency directory. HR can provide this data.

Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 Centralized location for finding employee related events by borough and category. Categories –Exams & Training –Health Initiatives –Meetings/Events –Things To Do –Volunteer Use the Contact Us form to submit events for your agency. Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 Contact and Procedures Use the Contact Us form found in the footer navigation to submit suggestions, questions, or comments on CS content. You may also send content changes and requests directly to For immediate technical assistance please open up a ticket with the DoITT Help Desk— Content will be published according to the same standards as are used for NYC.gov. Overall site and application updates are made on Wednesdays.

Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 Intranet- Next Steps Sub portals using the portal software and IW. The DR environment must be in place first. Identity management strategy and agency participation in LDAP will help determine how far we can go for supporting applications on the intranet platform. Develop strategy for supporting agency application development in the CityShare environment. Once personalization has been implemented, more communities of interests will be created with the capability of posting to libraries and forums. Workflow applications for needs such as wireless phone procurement or timesheets for agencies who are not using City Time right now. Upgrading event calendar.

Web Developer’s Meeting July 29, 2004 Intranet- Feedback Needed! Please be sure to utilize the Contact Us form. Keeping content relevant and available is largely dependent on the agency content owners. Contact me directly: Dominic Pisciotta
