Timetables/Daily Routines Children to enter via the door near the Junior ICT suite. Children to be taken to the office if they are late. End of day – 10 mins with teacher, then late book, DSP After school clubs – collect from office Lunchtime clubs – Gardening club – Monday 12.30pm Chess club – Thursday 1pm Homework club – Thursday 12.30pm Choir – Thursday 12.30pm

Break times Morning playtime is at KS1 children can go to the canteen to buy drinks. Fruit is provided free of charge. KS2 children can go to the studio to buy drinks and healthy snacks or toast. Children should not take food from lunchboxes at playtimes. Equipment is provided in all playgrounds for children to play with and the trim trail (KS1) and tyre park (KS2) are on a rota basis. There is NO FOOTBALL allowed.

New Curriculum Year 4 are beginning the new curriculum in Literacy, Maths and Science. After Christmas the new curriculum will be rolled out to all subject areas. There will be a meeting later in the year for parents to find out more about the new curriculum. It has not been finalised by the government.

Groups Sets for Maths, Literacy Skills and Spellings. Mixed ability groupings for Topic and other work where appropriate. Ability groupings for Writing and Reading.

Reading All children bring book bags in every day Two books: Reading Book (structured until a fluent reader) and Choice book All children have a Reading Diary in which to record reading Please do not put water bottles in book bags! Reading Pamphlets given to parents in Reception and Year 3 with more guidance for supporting reading

Learning Beyond the Classroom: How can I help my child? Encouraging use of language and listening to language e.g story tapes, adult reading aloud, reading a range of texts. Using mathematical skills in real life situations e.g. using money, telling the time, baking, reading timetables, board games and using Mymaths.

Homework Friday is Homework Day! Maths – Handed in to Set Teacher by Thursday Spellings – Differentiated lists to be tested on the following Friday Reading – Books sent home. Please encourage children to read daily. Topic – Occasional tasks given.

Helping in School We welcome any parent helpers in year 4. Many parents come to help in school with Reading Literacy Volunteers Sewing Enrichment activities. If helpers are coming in regularly we will need to make arrangements for them to be DBS checked through the school, even if already DBS checked through somewhere else. All helpers or visitors should come through main School office and be signed in officially.

Y4 Trips Trips are normally planned around our Topic work and these are planned and arranged in the Autumn Term. Rainforest Topic – We hope to have a visit from the “Animal Man.” Autumn Term. A Theatre visit - 26 th November 2013 A Roman day. A Year 4 Residential – Outdoor Learning and activities – 12 th – 14 th May 2013.
