 Pupils improve most in Year 1 when both staff and parents regularly monitor progress  Daily reading is expected: please comment and sign in the reading record – this can be used as a home/school contact book.  On arrival, children put their book bags in our book box and change their books, when necessary.  Every child needs to keep their book in a clearly named book bag.  Some children will have sounds and word lists to practise at home/school. Home learning

 Later in the school year, some children will have spellings to practise at home. More details will follow.

 Commencing Friday 25 th September, there will be a home learning activity focusing on learning which is taking place in the classroom. The home learning book will be sent home on Fridays and please return the book by the following Thursday. Home learning

 Communication to parents is via letters home, reading records and the school website, which is being updated. Communication

Progress is tracked closely over the year. Attainment and progress

 The children are regularly assessed to check that they are making progress.  The children are used to assessments as we have different assessments/tests that we use throughout the year. The final level your child receives at the end of the school year is based on Teacher Assessment – the tests are to support my judgements. Assessment

 Maths Passports and Big Write continue this year.  Maths Passports – more details will be inside your child’s Maths Jottings Book which will be sent home on Friday 25 th Sept.  Big Write - regular pieces of assessed work at the end of each Writing unit.  Science – on-going assessments.  Reading is taught and assessed through Guided Reading/Individual reading sessions.  At the end of Year 1 (Summer Term) all Year 1 children take part in a National Phonics Assessment. The children always enjoy this assessment and I report back to parents to comment on their child’s results, and to suggest activities to continue their child’s learning Assessment

 We’re happy to chat about any worries/concerns you may have – however, if you think you need longer then please make an appointment. Open door policy!
