Mis-match of Local Skills & Qualifications in Relation to Industry’s Requirements 2,100 JSA registered unemployed An additional 17,000 IS/IB Benefit Dependants Only 10 Businesses per 1,000 Inhabitants 2,500 Registered Problem Drug Users 70% of Population not qualified at ‘S’ Grade or above Almost one quarter of Glasgow’s Vacant and Derelict Land Average Household Income is 27% below Scottish Average 3,150 Asylum Seekers/ Refugees in North Glasgow

Glasgow North Ltd is the local development company for North Glasgow. KEY OBJECTIVES: 1Assist local people to access employment opportunities. 2Assist local people to sustain their employability by promoting a culture of lifelong learning and development. 3Support the formation of new businesses within the area. 4Encourage existing employers to grow, develop and increase their competitiveness. 5Promote the physical regeneration of the area.

KEY OUTCOMES ,128 1,128 local people were helped into jobs local people were assisted into Further Education local people were assisted with accessing vocational training employees of local companies were supported with training new businesses were assisted to set up in the area These businesses created 111 new local jobs local private sector employers received assistance local social economy sector employers received assistance companies received assistance with property enquiries

KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE CHARTER:  To recruit as many local unemployed people as possible in the new Tesco store  To contribute to the creation of a winning culture in an area characterised by high unemployment and low educational achievement  To identify routes of funding that could be used to support the work of the Partnership  To contribute to the existing employment strategy for the area  To disseminate lessons learned from the Partnership both locally and nationally

HOW OBJECTIVES WERE ACHIEVED:  Skills, experience, local knowledge and existing partnerships  Developed a customised training programme Pre-training Mentoring  Raising Awareness - communication  Managing Expectations

ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR: full and part time jobs at Tesco St Rollox local people offered jobs and started work job opportunities taken up by people who were unemployed 82% 82% recruits completed training and started work in store 92% 92% staff at Tesco St Rollox are local people

44% 44% of the people going through the training programme have less visits to their GP 40% 40% feel that their health has improved 24% 24% have joined a gym 24% 24% are planning to go on holiday ADDITIONAL IMPACT: Since starting work:
