 Allegory  A story in which the characters and events represent an underlying truth about life  Denouement  Refers to the resolution of a story or plot  Motif  A recurring subject or theme in a work of literature  Pathos  The part of the story that makes the reader feel sorry for the characters

 Paradox  A statement that seems to go against common sense, yet it is true  Conflict  The problems and complications of a story  Exaggeration  Stretching the truth  Description  The use of words to draw a clear picture of a person, place, or thing
