Welcome to math class, 6 th Graders! Ms. Ioanilli Room 106

A little bit about me… Favorite activities: Running, yoga, going to the beach, reading, shopping, going to sporting events (Go Red Sox!), doing things with family/friends, & cooking (or trying to at least) Favorite color: Pink Family: I have 2 brothers and a pet turtle named Toots Favorite sports: Basketball (to play) & football (to watch) Pet peeves: Poor manners and students coming to class without pencils! Interesting fact: I am very clumsy What I did over the summer: Visited Cape Cod, went to the beach, took a math class!!! Things I love: MATH and pizza

What will we learn this year in math??? Major Topics: Ratios and Proportional Relationships, the Number System, Expressions and Equations, Geometry, Statistics and Probability. Assessment Tools: Tests, quizzes, class participation, homework, open response questions, projects, word problems, take home tests/writing assignments, notebooks, group work, journals, stations, teacher observations

What will I need for supplies? Spiral notebook (3 subject if possible)…if you are more comfortable using a binder that’s fine, too! You will need 3 sections. Pocket folder Pencils!!! Agenda book (provided) Textbook/workbook (provided) Optional supplies: ruler, highlighter, erasers, graph paper

Classroom Rules Respect!!! (Classmates, building/furniture, teachers) Raise your hand & use proper manners Try your best (Do your homework, ask for help, study!!!) Be on time and bring your materials to class NO cell phones in class

Homework Homework Expectations: You will be assigned math homework each night, except for Fridays! It is essential to complete homework, so that you can practice what you learned in class. Homework should take about minutes. Remember to do homework in pencil, and always show all of your work. It’s ok to make mistakes—you will receive full credit as long as it is complete and passed in on time! Makeup Procedure: If you are absent, check the website or call a friend for your homework assignment. See Ms. Ioanilli when you return to receive any notes/assignments that you missed. If you miss a test/quiz, you are expected to take it during SSB the day you return.

How can I seek extra help? I understand that math can be pretty tough. If you are having trouble and need help, you can come in during Student Support Block…just be sure to bring a pass! Always use your notebook to help you with homework. You will have classnotes, vocabulary, and example problems for each lesson! Use your textbook or math websites. When in doubt, ask a parent, sibling, or buddy for help!

Important Websites *We will be generating a list of fun math websites together soon*
